West Virginia Fans Throw Debris on Floor During Game Against Pittsburgh

A Pittsburgh Assistant Coach Gets Hit by Coin at West Virginia Basketball Arena During Game

A Pittsburgh assistant coach was hit by a coin that a West Virginia fan threw on the court Wednesday. The West Virginia fans are proving that they are simply out of control, and because the school has been unable to get them under control, it is time for the NCAA to step in and do something about it. Several times during the West Virginia vs. Pittsburgh game on Wednesday night, fans at the game threw things down on to the court. Even after several items were thrown on the court and even after the West Virginia basketball coach (Bob Huggins) made an announcement that it needed to stop, someone threw a coin from the stands into the Pittsburgh team huddle.

The actions being committed by people attending the West Virginia game are absolutely ridiculous, and something needs to be done right away to make sure that it doesn't ever happen again. This isn't even the first time that the behavior of West Virginia fans have been called into question, as the student section has taken to shouting and chanting profanity during their live televised games. The university warned the students about it, but then a week later against Louisville they started attacking the opposing coach (Rick Pitino) for an affair that he had. It seems to be about time that the West Virginia fans start showing some class before someone gets hurt, but maybe the choice should be taken out of their hands.

There is no excuse for the behavior that the West Virginia fans showed on Wednesday night, and there is never an instance where debris should be thrown on to the court during a game. Rifling a coin from a high altitude at the stadium could seriously hurt someone, and it could be considered a deadly weapon. Throwing garbage on to the floor could also cause someone to slip on it and hurt themselves, possibly even tearing a knee or an Achilles heal that could put someone out of basketball for life. It's time that the line is drawn and that people are arrested, students are expelled, and people are banned for life if it is proven that they threw something. Any fan that sees this happen also needs to report it, or they are just as guilty as the person doing it.

People all of a sudden have no self control and it isn't just at the games it appears to be everywhere.

Considering that they stomped Pitt, I really don't see the point of all the asininity. I'm a WVU alumnus and I find the behavior (even against odious Pitt) a bit much. And really, is Pitt worth NCAA and sports world condemnation? Is Rick Pitino (sorry Rick but you admitted to it)? WVU has always been known for its rowdy and loyal fans, but this is just ridiculous.
