Westboro Baptist Church to Protest at Murdered Tampa Teens' Memorial Service

Ultra-controversial cult religious group The Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas has announced plans to picket the memorial service of two Tampa teens murdered by their mother last week.

The church plans to protest the memorial service because the murdered teens' father is in the military and was stationed overseas at the time.

"God sent the shooter to Tampa, Florida," said the Westboro Church in a statement. "Murderous mother kills rebellious children while father is off playing bloody war games, fighting for same-sex marriage. GOD SMACK!"

The Florida West Coast Riders, a group that opposes the church, says they will attend and attempt to use American flag to shield family and friends at the memorial service from the signs and chants of the protesters.

"It doesn't matter to them at all. They get out there with their bull horns and their nasty signs and they get attention... That's what they want," says Thomas Brown of the Florida West Coast Riders. "They're all about being offensive and we have to do what we do in a respectful way."

The two teens, Calyz and Beau, were shot and killed by their 50-year old mother Julie Schenecker in a horrific homicide that has shocked residents of the gated Ashington Reserve subdivision in New Tampa. Schenecker has confessed the crime to police.

"She did tell us that they talked back, that they were mouthy," says Laura McElroy with TPD. "But I don't think that will ever serve as an explanation to the rest of us of how you could take a child's life."

The teens father Parker Schenecker is a US Army Intelligence colonel and was stationed in Qatar at the time. Julie Shenecker is currently being held on two counts of first degree murder.

The Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas often pickets the funeral service of American servicemen and women killed in action preaching their message of hate against homosexuals, which they believe means God has condemned the USA.

The Westboro Baptist Church is not a true Baptist religious denomination but a cult group made up of family members and recruits surrounding founder Fred Phelps, a faux pastor and disbarred lawyer.

When they read the Bible they take the wrath of God from it, and nothing else. If they read more deeply, they would discover the message of Christ was to Love. That is the greatest commandment he's given us! What a shame that these individuals can not find it in their hearts to do that.

This is just terrible. How dare they call themselves Christians...following the literal teachings of the Bible, my a**. Obviously they forgot to read the part about "Judge not, lest ye be not judged."

I cannot find the words to express how I feel about this hideous group that hide themselves behind the banner of Christianity.

This "church" protested at the church I pastor at in Mulvane, Kansas and they are a black eye to Christianity in my opinion.

I'm certainly not defending theWesboro crew, but, the truth is, they follow biblical teaching literally. Remember the last of the plagues of Egypt, when all the firstborn sons in the country were killed by God himself.
