Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown Offers Something for Everyone

Hotel Review

I recently stayed at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown, New York. The hotel was filled with three large groups - National Guards men (and women), electrical engineers and family and friends in town for a local Bar Mitzvah. The groups couldn't have possibly been more different, yet the hotel managed to give everyone the kind of stay they needed.

I was upgraded to the Concierge Level* where the rooms had a few extra touches like a refrigerator and updated toiletries. There is an Executive Lounge on this floor that offers complimentary snacks (and breakfast) and non-alcoholic drinks, with other drinks available for purchase. The lounge has comfortable couches and is available from Sunday evening through Friday afternoon. It's a nice touch as lounges usually don't open until Monday, but business travelers often arrive on Sunday.

The Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown is only 10 miles from Rye Playland/Beach and there are three golf courses within 15 minutes. There is an indoor pool with a whirlpool on the premises, a day spa and fitness center. I was happily surprised to find I didn't have to pay for internet as they had an assortment of wireless services (like Sprint and Comcast) that you could log into with your home information.

Sunday Brunch at the Harvest Restaurant is delicious and plentiful. Along with the standard omelet (regular, with egg whites, or from egg beaters) and waffles stations, I found extras like yogurt smoothies and fresh blintzes. I was also impressed with the selection of fresh fruit. I've seen way too many bananas and apples and breakfast buffets. This one even had a better selection, even plums. The croissants were fresh and flaky. The bar/lounge in the lobby had a nice selection and good service, but didn't seem to be open very much (a midnight close on a Saturday night?). I did not eat at the Ruth Chris Steakhouse.

Problems at the Westchester Marriott during my stay were very minor. My room wasn't free of feather pillows (I'm allergic) as I requested, but they were brought in quickly. The maid even changed all the bedding before I asked, which I've had to do at many other hotels. I had dinner in the Tavern restaurant one night and the staff seemed overwhelmed by the fact that the restaurant was full. I sat for 10 minutes waiting for someone to take my order and give me water while the wait staff stood in a corner trying to decide how they can handle it all! They did figure it out, though, and were finally attentive as they served me a delicious Margherita Pizza. For $10.00, it was big enough for my dinner and two more lunches!

I would definitely recommend the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown for business or pleasure. The rooms are clean and updated and they have an assortment of restaurants, lounges and other amenities. It is located about 15 minutes from the White Plains Airport. Visit their website for more information.
