The opportunities at Western State are endless, with the multitude of outdoor classrooms and several different major options Western State really has something for everyone. There is endless fishing, mountain biking, hiking, rock climbing, kayaking, skiing and it could go on forever.
The town of Gunnison is a quiet little mountain town of about 2500 people, there are great shops and several fantastic restaurants to choose from ranging from the fast food joint to the elegant dining experience. The people are very friendly and they embrace the college students as their own no matter where they come from. There is also Crested Butte which is said by many to be the "last great ski town" about 40 miles up the road. If you've never seen it snow in July, it's a good bet you'll see it there.
Western State also has a rich athletic history from the ski team to the football and volleyball teams. The cross country and track teams have won multiple national championships over the years and stay competitive every year. Along with athletics there are literally hundreds of outdoor clubs to join. Basically, if you can't find something to do in Gunnison at Western State College you'll be hard pressed to find another college that will fit your needs. Western State has a great web site with endless information, you should check it out.
