A Product Review

Charlotte Kuchinsky
With the economy continuing to spiral out of control, most women are cutting back on the number of type of cosmetics they use. One way to make it easier on the pocketbook is to switch to some of today's quality products that also happen to be inexpensive.

One of my favorite brands of all time is Wet n Wild. Not only are their products first rate, they are up-to-date with the times and easy on the budget.

I particularly love Wet n Wild Color Icon Brow and Liner Pencils. They come in a wide variety of shades. These include amethyst, black, bronzed, charcoal, cool green, dark brown, deep blue, green, mink brown, olive, purple, sky blue, taupe, turquoise and white.

These wonderful pencils make some interesting claims. But do they live up to them? Let's take a look.

First Wet n Wild Color Icon Brow and Liner Pencils promise color that is rich and vibrant. That is almost indisputable. I know of no other brand that provides the wide variety of colors of Wet n Wild. Additionally, the colors provided are indeed vibrant and rich. Therefore, the product gets 5 out of 5 stars on this claim.

Second, these pencils promise a creamy formula that smoothes on without pulling or tugging at delicate skin around the eyes. While I do believe there are still gentler formulas available among other brands, there is no denying that Wet n Wild provides one that is equal to, or better than, many expensive brands. That is why it gets 4 out 5 stars here.

Certain Wet n Wild colors work equally well on the eyes or brows. True again. Whether it is taupe, bronzed, dark brown, mink brown or black all of these colors often work well for filling in sparse brows or for lining eyes. I happen to think these pencils are better on the brows because they are stiff enough to use in short bursts that can replicate the look of hair. However, as noted above, they are also great for lining. Therefore, the pencils get another 4 out of 5 stars.

That earns Wet n Wild Color Icon Brow and Liner Pencils 13 out of a possible 15 stars. That equals 4.1 stars on the average. That's good on any scale.

Ingredients include bees wax, C 15-23 alkane, caster seed oil, caprylic triglyceride, caprylyl glycol, cerifera wax, euphorbia, hydrogenated soy polyglycerides, iron oxide and isopropyl meristate. They also include magnesium violet, mica, ozokerite, petroleum, phenoxyethenol, titanium dioxide, tocopheryl acetate, ultramarines and zinc.

Wet n Wild Color Icon Brow and Liner Pencils retail for around $2 but are often on sale for as much as 50 percent off. The product is available in many drug stores like Rite Aid and Walgreen's as well as discount department stores like Wal-Mart.

These pencils sharpen with a cosmetic sharpener or a regular pencil sharpener. They will last for months depending upon the number of times used daily. At a reasonable average of 60 uses, that works out at under $.05 per use.
