My young daughter saw a commercial advertising the Whac-A-Mole game and had her heart set on purchasing it. I actually thought the game looked too lame to actually be fun. As much as my husband and I tried to dissuade her, she knew she wanted to own the Whac-A-Mole game. She purchased it with her own twenty dollar bill. On our next family game night, she eagerly pulled out Whac-A-Mole and we all began to play. Much to our shock, we all thoroughly enjoyed the game. We ended up playing the game for over an hour.
The object of the game is to whack your mole with your plastic mallet when you hear your mole's special sound. During each game, the sounds are rearranged so that each mole gets a unique sound that only lasts the duration of that particular game. There is also a bonus sound during each game, where the first person to whack their mole scores the points. Each correct whack results in ten points. Be careful though, because if you whack your mole to someone else's mole's sound, you will lose ten points. The first player to reach 100 points wins the game.
Whac-A-Mole has two levels for family playing with two to four players. During the easy level, the correct mole lights up when it makes its special sound. This level is great for the little ones and helps improve eye-hand coordination. During the hard level, you must use your ears carefully because there are no other clues. A solo level of play is also available for those times you do not feel like playing with your child (or for those times you feel like playing but your child does not).
The next time you are in the game aisle looking for a new board game to add to your family's collection, I recommend you take a second look at Whac-A-Mole by Hasbro. If you purchase this game, which retails for around twenty dollars, you will not be disappointed. This game would also be an excellent gift idea for young children.
