Whale Jumped on Sailboat Off Coast of South Africa Smashing the Mast

Sailing off the coast of South Africa you'd expect to have a whale of a good time. According to CBS, a sailboat owner Ralph Mothes was floating out in the sea taking in nature's beauty when they spotted a whale floating around in the ocean. The strange event that occurred next was something never heard of by sailing enthusiasts around the world. The 40 + ton whale jumped into mid-air and crashed onto the sailboat smashing the mast.

Strange as it seems there's actual footage of the whole event. You can click here to see the whale in action and remember this is not a rehearsed scene from Disney Land. This is actually a whale in the wild jumping up and destroying the boat. Visit here: www.cbsnews.com/8301-504784_162-20011367-10391705.html

The whale that jumped on the boat was either mad at the viewing or just happened to be flipping out of the water and the boat was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Whales throughout the world have been known to do what is called "breaching", which means jumping out the water and flapping their tails. If may be a way for them to express themselves or something that indicates their anger to something around them.

Personally, you may want to keep your distance if you're out at sea gazing at the creatures. You never know when a whale may pay you a visit. Breaching of whales is a common occurrence but hardly captured on camera like the one above. Most whales breach when their in groups to show dominance then others may jump out of water because they suspect danger. Either way if you a spot a whale floating you may want to keep on moving because you never know when a whale could jump up around you and land on your boat or at least scare you to death.
