What is a 1-900 Number?

Can You Make a Living Having a 1-900 Number?

Deana Marshall (Baconator)
A 1-900 number is considered a premium-rate telephone number that the owner uses to provide a service to the incoming caller at a fee. When a person calls a 1-900 number, the call is routed through a service provider and only connected to the intended party after credit card information is obtained and billed. This is how the service provider makes their money from the 1-900 numbers. A pre-established rate is done between the service provider and the 1-900 number owners. Call rates can vary anywhere between .99 cents a minute to the sky is the limit.

Many people immediately think of adult sex lines when they think of 1-900 numbers, and although there are many adult sex lines that carry a 1-900 number, there are many other types of service that utilize 1-900 numbers as well. Some other common service that use 1-900 numbers are video gaming tips covering almost any type of gaming system you can think of, crossword puzzle tips, horoscopes, psychic hotlines, dating, chatting and party hotlines, voting for favorite contestants from TV shows, contest, Lottery hotlines, gambling tips, weather information and many more. I am sure that if someone has a certain niche for something he or she could develop a 1-900 number for it; say as if you are a master carpenter or mechanic you could be a troubleshooter with a 1-900 number. If you currently have a business that is in a stump or just could use a bit more revenue you could initiate a 1-900 number offering telephone consult or maybe trouble shoot for internet or computer problems.

Okay, so it got me to thinking, what could I start a 1-900 number for that I am good at and could give advice about to make money. Well, of course, I came up with bacon; I could give advice to anyone who has an addiction to bacon or wants to gain a deeper love for bacon. Okay, maybe not the best idea, however, on a serious note I could offer advice on Behavioral Modification. Point is one could use a 1-900 number for practically anything.

Can you make money with a 1-900 number? Well I cannot swear to it, but from the looks of all of them out there, I would say yes. It is hard to turn on the TV or get on the internet anymore now days without seeing some 1-900 numbers flash across the screen so money is being made or you would not see such a vast amount of them out there. This actually may end up being the next best work at home job yet. You could have your calls go to a cell phone and not be stuck in front of a computer screen and still be paid.

Therefore, with my newfound wisdom on 1-900 numbers I decided to look into some providers and came across Michael Szerencsy. He is a veteran in the Pay Per Call Industry. His company, PayPerCall.com has been helping individuals and businesses turn telephone calls into profits since 1997. So maybe if you are looking to increase the money flow in your home or business you might want to check into a 1-900 number. I've heard of people charged hundreds of dollars on their phone bills by these scam opportunities. It isn't right for any reason as far as I'm concerned.

Hmm, I would want to hear from someone that actually tried it first, I think. I used to have an 800 number for my business, and it's amazing how many people will call when it's free!

Hmmm... maybe I should set up a 1-900 number to collect money to pay my husband's hospital bills. :) Do you think it would work? Call 1-900-CAN'T-AFFORD-AN-ATTORNEY to donate.
