Here are some of the things you need to know before you get ready for the 4th of July Weekend or day here in the desert Area. If you are an outdoors person and have an RV at hand, you may choose to go to Campgrounds or the Lake Mead area. If that is your game plan you need to know that during the Summer month open fires are no longer permitted in Camping, Lake or other outdoors Area. Fireworks are also not permitted at any of the Campgrounds or Lake Areas here in Las Vegas and surrounding Cities. This is due to the high fire risk at this scorching hot weather.
Due to the high heat the Annual Fireworks and Celebration of : "Red, White and Boom" has been canceled. Instead they have decided to bring us "Red, White and Splash".
Clark County Neighborhood Parks are open free to the public for old fashioned neighborhood get together from Noon to 4pm, besides Desert Breeze which is noon to 5pm. For locations and more information please visit here.
Henderson has free fireworks for all on the 4th of July. There annual celebration starts at 6pm and ends with Fireworks. It takes place at the Henderson Events Plaza. Please call (702)267-2171 for more information or visit here.
If you are looking for something that goes all day long you may want to check into the 59th annual Boulder City Damboree. Start with a Pancake Breakfast at 7am (you have to pay for the Pancakes, but they are delicious), a Parade at 9 am and then 4th of July Ceremonies at 11am. Take a break and get out of the heat, but don't forget to come back a 6pm for more celebrations and activities and fireworks after dark. Best of all besides what you want for food and drink it is free to the public. For more information visit here.
Summerlin can not be outdone of course. Here too the celebrations start early in the day. You can watch a free parade at 9 am, but if you want to go to listen to the Las Vegas Philharmonic, under Music Director David Itkin at Hills Park and later be awed by the Fireworks display rounding off the "Star Spangled Spactacular" you have to be willing to pay $25.00 per adult and $20.00 for children 6 through 12. For full information on packages, purchases and more visit: http://www.lasvegasphilharmonic.com/
Of course the Strip will have its Fireworks displays again starting at the Las Vegas Hilton, going to Ceasars Palace and on to the Mandalay Bay. You might want to call them and ask what time they start since they have a habit of changing their times last minute.
Have a safe and sane 4th of July Weekend and if all else fails you can always have a nice family get together with hot dogs, hamburgers and your own personal Family DJ. Just remember, don't drink and drive. Give yourself plenty of time to get anywhere on this weekend and keep loads of water on hand. It will be a scorcher again.
