What Are Acceptable Gifts to Buy for Co Workers?
Being Sure of What is Considered an Appropriate Gift in the Workplace
Workplace gifts that are more appropriate are gift cards, greeting cards, and of course cash. Although if you know someone is a coffee drinker, you can purchase them a new coffee mug, or even personalize it even more and check into ceramic shops that let you design your own mugs. For someone who brings in their lunch, you could purchase a new cooler for them. Both workplace gifts are appropriate and not too personal. They also don't send the wrong message; however, you still run the risk of being offended if the person receiving the gift does not use it in the workplace.
The safest workplace gifts are cash and gift cards, cash can be spent anywhere and is not personal. There is also no risk of being offended by giving cash, because the person used it for exactly what they wanted. The real question is how much cash to give as a workplace gift; it is always best that if employees are swapping gifts that they decide on a maximum spending limit, if not no more than $25.00 should be spent. This set amount will usually avoid over and under spending. Gift cards make an excellent gift in the workplace, although you don't want to run the risk of buying a gift card for a person that will never use it. For example you don't want to purchase a gift card for a person at a restaurant they will never eat at or store they don't normally shop at.
In conclusion, workplace gifts can often be trickier to give, even more so than a gift to a neighbor or distant relative. With all the problems that can happen from giving gifts in the workplace, it is best to stick with the safest gifts. While cash may not be personal enough and it may be inappropriate if everyone is trading gifts, gift cards are perfect for every occasion. In order for gift cards to be the perfect workplace gift, you only have to ask a few simple questions before you make the purchase. Which is your favorite restaurant, or have you shopped at any of these stores this year, sometimes just listening to them in a conversation you can find out where to purchase the gift card. Most people will let you know exactly where they eat or shop, and they will never think you were fishing for information. Now you know which ones to lean towards purchasing to make your gifts appropriate for the workplace without being too personal.

Post a CommentMy husband came home today with a bottle of cologne. He states that his female co-worker said her husband didn't like, so he told her to give it away to someone, so she brought it to work and gave it to my husband. I was really upset over this and told my husband I felt that was a bit too personal. Am I right or did I over react. He didn't think it was nothing at all, not personal at all, but I felt it was! Please give me some insight. what do you think?
