What is Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is perhaps the most popular way to make money online. Costing nothing and easy to startup, affiliate marketing is responsible for making Webmasters some extra cash (and in some cases, a fulltime income). How does affiliate marketing work, and how can you make it work for you? Starting and understanding is easy, but you have to really work to get the money.

To get an affiliate, either visit website offering an affiliate deal (this will normally be found at the bottom of the website) or going to an affiliate hub that wrangles different affiliates together so you can quickly find one to align with.

To make money with affiliate advertising, you place ads on your website. When someone clicks that ad, they are brought to the affiliate. When a purchase is made, you make a percentage of the sales.

Now, the marketing aspect. You have to place the ads either on the side of your page, or insert text links (that you receive from the affiliate) in your website. Some people make websites that just place the links on the page without commenting on them (like game websites that have ads but never mention them).

I prefer the content route. I write reviews on the affiliates to help people understand what the affiliate offers and why they should purchase from them. However, never say that an affiliate is good if they're not, you will not be trusted. If you are truthful though, you will build a following.

No matter what your decision on marketing, making money with affiliate marketing isn't that hard, you just have to be persistent in your marketing if you want to make a large sum. While I can't promise that affiliate marketing can let you quit your job, it can be a step to making extra per month with only a few hours of work a day.
