What Are Alcohol's Physical and Psychological Effects?

Allie Bojko
Alcohol as we already know is considered a drug but is legal to drink as long as you are the required age limit. Alcohol's a natural forming substance formed through the whole fermentation process that happens when sugar has a chemical reaction with yeast (thanks for chemistry), its really the primary ingredient found in general wines, beer and etcetera. There are various forms of alcohol, the ones found in alcoholic beverages is known as ethyl. It doesn't matter if you drank one five ounce cup of wine, a twelve ounce can of beer, or a shot of distilled spirits because it's about the same alcohol content. The unique aspect of ethyl is that it can make you feel great, intoxicated or unconsciousness, it all comes down to how much alcohol and the manner in which you consumed those beverages that affect those reasons.

Alcohol is what they consider a mind altering drug and that's exactly what it is it's just like those other drugs such as heroin or tranquilizers they have the exact same effect on personnel. It does alter your mood as in changing your emotions from a happy mood to a violent one real quick because of its ability to become habit forming. Alcohol is considered to be a downer because of the effects it can have on the body such as depressing your nervous system. It can also be the reason on why many individuals when consuming too many alcoholic beverages can dramatically slow down their reaction time, cause a couple of slipups when speaking, and mostly cause unconsciousness when you have had way to many drinks for the night.

An interesting fact about alcohol is that you don't need to be a frequent drinker to have any problems with alcohol even the first time drinker can have problems. It's a given that every year many young teens and adults die in alcohol related car accidents, suicides, alcohol poisoning, as well as drowning whether it be in a pool or in their own vomit. Serious health problems take its toll on those individuals that continue to consume alcohol before they reach the stage of addiction.

Here are the serious health problems alcoholics face

-A fried brain, a damaged kidney or pancreas

-An increase in heart attacks, strokes and high blood pressure

-Cirrhosis of the liver

-Premature aging

-If you're a women pregnant than an increased risk of the baby having some kind of birth defect whether it be retardation, low birth weight and various other problems.

As you can see from this article alcohol can have some serious consequences and effects on certain individuals. When consuming alcohol keep it to a moderate amount, alcohol can bring out the worse in you, if you decide to get hammered. If you are a women and pregnant you should not be drinking alcohol because it can kill the offspring or worse cause a birth defect to your future child. Know your limits when you decide to drink alcohol because you certainly wouldn't want it to get the best of you. Drink responsibly and limit your alcohol intake to just the weekends, or better yet just on special occasions such as family get-togethers, holidays, or weddings that way your not abusing your body all that much.
