What I Am Thankful for This Year: 2009 was Fine

Rachel Heller
It is hard to believe that 2009 is almost over but it is almost over. Thanksgiving is this Thursday and Santa Claus and the Hanukkah Fairy are circling the block. This is the time of year for reflection and giving thanks. 2009 has gone by in a blink; however, there are many things that I am thankful for this year. My reflections this year involve, people, places, animals, and hobbies. In short, 2009 has been a fine year for me.

I am thankful for being a writer because writing has been a passion of mine since I was eight. I think it is very important to have things that you are passion about in life. Otherwise, life can get dull. Writing is a great reflective tool and a way for me to express my creativity.

Quilting became part of my creativity repertoire in 2009; I am thankful for this because I have never made a quilt before because I have an eye hand coordination problem. Therefore, I was concerned that I could never make a quilt; however, I am in the process of making a tie quilt and I am going to make an Australian inspired quilt next year.

I am very thankful that I have made many new friends this year because I am very shy and it has been hard for me to make new friends. I have made friends at book club that I also go to the movies once in a while. Also, I have group of friends that I play Maj Jong with weekly. I have learned this year that you can't have too many friends.

I am a victim of domestic violence so I am very grateful to be alive this year. Yes, I have been out of an abusive relationship for about ten years; but I always reflect on it because it has made me a stronger person.

I love animals and I have reflected on my dogs this year. I am grateful for the 13 years that had with my black lab named Precious Bear. I will never forget her but Snickers is my new German Shepard puppy. He is very cute and playful; I love reflecting on the joy he will bring to our family.

I am thankful for Australia this year. This is because Australian has inspired me in 2009. I am writing a play that will take place in Australia and I am going to make an Australian quilt next year.

2009 is coming to a close so it is time for reflection. Reflection is essential part of life; therefore I do it often. This year animals, hobbies, people, and places have flooded my reflections. In short, 2009 has been a fine year for me.
