I am taking a moment to remember the American spirit because I do not fully believe it can be killed. I encourage those of you who read this to take a moment to share your American story. Your story could inspire someone who is hurting or losing faith.
Here is my American Story:
I am a United States Sailor. Five years ago I vowed to protect this nation from all threats, foreign and domestic. I have seen my comrades go to war for things they personally didn't believe in, to save people they didn't even know. I have pictures of uniformed-clad friends of mine laughing with Iraqi children and sharing candy bars from their packs. I have heard their stories of joy, hope and pain. I have had friends who gave their lives in Afghanistan and Iraq. I have delivered bad news, I have prayed with the families and I have seen one father completely lose his faith in this country upon the news of his son's death in Iraq. When he got the news he didn't say a word, he walked right past out into the front yard, pulled down the American flag he had been flying out front of the house and threw it in the garbage can out by the curb. I remember my friends. I have attended their funerals, I have folded their flags.
I believe that this great nation is loved and guarded most by people who never get to meet the President nor have a say in the laws being made in Washington. They appreciate this great nation through the fight they endure to protect it. They deliver a message to the masses in war without saying a word. To the children in Iraq they are heroes. The children flee into the streets tugging at the camo pants and saying things that the soldier, sailor, airman, marine can't understand in his mind. But he understands in his heart. He may not have volunteered for this mission but he brings hope. I believe that my American story comes in my own service to our country even when I hate what is going on up the chain.
I have three lovely children and a strong, supportive husband. I have chosen to re-enlist in our great Navy though I face a deployment this year. I believe that we can overcome the evils that flow through our country. I will stand behind our President though I daily question his activities.
Please share your American story. We could all use a warm fuzzy and I believe it is vital that we remember the good that MADE our country in the first place.

Post a CommentWhile I honor and revere our fighting men and women, I feel that our government has failed them, and ergo their families, dreadfully by sending them into a mismanaged conflict. My heart goes out to the families that have lost loved ones. My personal feeling is that when we leave Iraq, it will become an Islamic republic, rendering every American life lost there wasted.
