What Any RC Car Builder Needs to Know About the Various Types of RC Car Bodies

Jenniifer Blake
People of all ages enjoy RC car racing, and many of these racers realize that the shell of the RC car can make all the difference; both aesthetically and in terms of performance. When building an RC car, the builder should be aware of the types of RC car bodies and how they impact the performance, handling and looks of the car that they are building.

The body or shell of the RC car is essentially the covering of the car and are classified into two broad headings: customized and pre-built. A customized body is simply a RC car body that the builder has modified to suit their particular needs of performance, handling and aesthetics. A pre-built body is a RC car body that has been built by the manufacturer using a particular template (much like how real cars are constructed). Many pre-built RC car bodies have been developed by the manufacturer to maximize performance in different racing environments after years of research and development. Some RC car bodies are even replicas of real cars which make them even more desirable.

There are also specific types of car bodies which most RC cars fall under; the car body, the monster truck body and the racing buggy body. This classification system is used to determine the type of car along with the main environment that the car will be utilized in.

The RC racing car body is one that simulates a car specifically suited for racing (as the name suggests). This type of body is usually low to the ground and elongated and can be based on actual racing cars such as winners of the Le-Mans racing circuit of desirable cars such as a Ferrari Enzo. This type of car body is often more expensive than the other types and as such are popular with professional RC racers, people who construct their own customized RC car bodies or people starting an RC car collection.

The RC Monster truck body is a replica of a monster truck and is constructed with durability and strength in mind. This type of body is made to run over things and handle even the harshest terrain. It has large wheel arches to accommodate the large wheels that are necessary in a monster truck along with a large, wide and heavy frame. This is probably the most popular type of RC car bodies for children or amateur RC racers.

The third type of RC car body is the racing buggy body and is simply a hybrid of the racing car and monster truck bodies. The bodies of these RC vehicles are built for both speed and durability since it has a large frame with large tires (to withstand a wide range of terrain) but is also very fast and nimble. The racing buggy body is less quick than the racing car body and less aerodynamically stable than the racing car body but able to withstand harsher terrain and is a lot more durable.

The body of the RC car is one of the most important things that you have to consider when assembling an RC car yourself. You need to consider which of the three bodies and their characteristics are right for you; the raw speed and handling of the racing car, the durability and effectiveness of the monster truck body or the racing buggy body which is a mixture of the monster truck and racing car body types.
