What is Astral Projection?

Tammy Duffey
Astral projection is the ability to project your astral body outside of your physical one. This is a type of out-of-body experience that recognizes that we all have an astral body that is separate, yet a part of our physical body. Our astral body, or conscious mind, is able to travel outside our physical body, sometimes while we're able to maintain some degree of awareness.

Astral projection is a natural ability that we all possess. Also known as astral travel, most of us routinely engage in projection. The problem is that the process is so natural that it's unconscious and we simply don't remember what happened or what we've learned.

Astral projection can be achieved in a number of ways. Individuals who have mastered this skill can project themselves consciously and whenever they choose to. At times, astral projection occurs during moments of complete relaxation or deep meditation. Other times, projection is achieved quite accidentally during a crisis or when a person experiences extreme, ongoing stress.

Each and every individual is capable of learning astral projection. As long as there is no underlying fear or issue about the projection, this is a skill that, through desire, perseverance and practice, we can learn to become conscious and in control of astral projection.

When we achieve projection, we remain attached to our physical body by what is referred to as the silver cord or thread. Like an umbilical cord, this silver thread keeps us attached to our physical body. During astral projection, we are always safe and would never do anything or go anywhere that would be against our will or better judgment.

There are different types of astral projection; involuntary and voluntary.

Involuntary astral projection happens when we have intensely vivid dreams. Sometimes we might be able to remember bits of those dreams or we may wake feeling more exhausted than when we went to bed the night before. At other times, we might wake frequently throughout the night, but only for a moment, to remember a part of the projection.

Voluntary astral projection is achieved when we are able to remain conscious and completely aware of all aspects of the experience.

People who have developed the skill of projection, consciously and voluntarily leave their physical bodies. The reasons that we would want to hone and master this ability are individual and personal. Individuals work to achieve astral projection for reasons such as spiritual learning, healing, protection or problem solving. Whatever your reason, astral projection is a skill that is well worth developing.
