What You Need to Beat the Rain and Play Better Golf When the Weather isn't Cooperating

We have all played in the rain, not always by choice either. Many times during tournament play you have to stay out and finish unless there is more threatening weather on the way. So there is no use complaining about it, you simply need to prepare for it.

I have listed below a few tips to help beat the rain and play better golf.

1. Check The Weather: Check the forecast the morning of your round. Don't look at it on Monday for your Saturday tee time and then tell your buddies that it was not supposed to rain!

2. Bring The Right Gear: There are many items you can bring along to help with your game during wet weather. I'll list a few:

a. Umbrella - Obvious Choice
b. Extra Gloves - Keep them dry until you use them!
c. Extra Towels - See Above!
d. Rain cover for your clubs or whole bag. Even look into a cheap cart cover to keep the whole cart dry.
e. New Spikes - (if needed) check them before you play, if they are worn out, get some new ones in, its past due anyway!
f. Rain Gloves - Find a think pair that will not interfere with your grip.
g. Rain Suit - Jacket/Pants - A golfers best friend! Gortex works best!
h. Rain Hat - Keeps the rain from dripping down your face, Gortex bucket hats work best.

These items are very useful and helpful, but they don't all work on their own. You need to keep things dry not only during the shots you play, but on the way to your next ball. When you can set your clubs or park a cart under a tree, do it. Keep your extra gloves and towels in a large plastic bag so you do not get them wet by mistake.

Make sure you have an extra towel for your hands and grips and have it ready in a dry place, you will be using this a lot! Take a quick break at the turn, send your buddy for drinks and food while you dry off your equipment before heading back out.

These are all simple tips to help keep you dry during your day in the rain! The scores will not be as good as a calm day, but everyone has to play in these conditions and generally the most organized player in such weather comes out on top!
