The Matrix
The Matrix put Keanu Reeves (Neo) back on the map, not since Bill and Ted did he star in a movie that was as good as this one. This was the ultimate battle of man versus machine. Tell me how do you know you are alive if everything is run by machines? Laurence Fishburne (Morpheus, so which pill do you want the red or the blue one? The follow up to this movie was great and highly anticipated.
Dark Knight
Dark Knight touched on scenes that were never seen by those that were not familiar with the Dark Knight comic book series. They have finally got an actor Christen Bale that could play Batman and play the roll well. The Joker (Heath Ledger) stole the show in this movie, may he rest in peace. The scenes were dark and you get a chance to see the not so good Batman.
Braveheart
Mel Gibson (William Wallace) was phenomenon in this story of William the great. The history behind this tale is both true and made up. This is was the ultimate love story of a normal man loving a girl and those angry invaders have their way with her. Mel was the heroin in this and led the poor against the invaders and yes it was a great ending.
Gladiator
To battle against the Romans was suicide for any army back in that time. This showed the true grit of the Roman army in the first battle. Russell Crowe (Maximus) bulked up for the roll and did a great job portraying a general who all he wanted was to go home to his family. The battle scenes were intense and bloody, which makes for a great modern day Roman mesh pit. The Emperor was a weasel played by Joaquin Phoenix (Commodus), who wanted to rule but was to cowardly to fight anyone one on one. The ending is sad but Maximus gets his wish.
Heat
One scene in here in particular caught my attention and that was when they robbed the last bank and came out shooting. That was great chorography, the military use the exacted same firing principle when on the move from a hostile area. This was one of the first movies to have Al Pacino and Robert De Niro in it together, the scenes were acted out with perfection, all the way up to the final scene with the both of them. Have fun with this one, the casts are an all-star of actors from beginning to end, you can definitely play it over and over again.
Die Hard
Bruce Willis (Officer John McClane) went from prime time detective want to be to the last honest cop in New York. Bruce roll as an action cop opened the doors for him on the big screen, and he could not have played a better role than this one where he saves an office building from terrorist. The action in this movie was so good and intense that they even made a video game about the movie. Bruce Willis was cracking jokes while he eliminated the bad guys. The sequels to Die Hard are just as good as the first one, and Bruce acts the action roles like never before. Must have for action series.
Platoon
I was a young boy when I went to see this by myself, how I got in the movie theater by myself I still don't know. I was fascinated at the thought of military and combat, and this movie really let me see what was going on over in that place everyone talked about called Vietnam. The lists of actors are from new comers to veteran actors like Forest Whitaker. The scenes were green and sweaty, guys were buddies and enemies. The songs belted out were of the 60's and they made you think back to the good times of love and peace. Charlie Sheen plays a rookie just wanting to get out alive. If you want to know what war was like this is the movie to watch.
The Bourne Identity
This is the movie that made Matt Damon (Jason Bourne) a top rated actor and action hero. Bourne was one of those movies were you could not wait for the hero to come to his senses and find out who he really was. This was one of those I can't to see what move he does next action movies, it had love, suspense, and small flash backs of his former life. This is a must have in your collection, and also pick up the sequels.
From Dusk til Dawn
When Quentin Tarantino (Richard Gecko) gave himself the most amazing part in the movie I was jealous, the director allowed Salma Hayek (Santanico Pandemonium) to put her toe in Tarantino's mouth and he drank beer from it. What a lucky guy, not to mention all the vampires in the movie, trying to kill him and George Clooney. This was your classic action horror movie with all the blood and crazy fight scenes. Harvey Keitel rounded off the cast of this bank robber, vampire action classic. Pick this one up but don't bother with the other titles, they will leave you angry and confused.
Everyone loved the Star Wars Trilogy, with Mark Hamill (Luke Sky Walker) and Carrie Fisher(Princess Leia) tearing up the screen. The scenes were revolutionary, and if you saw them today you would think they were shot with modern day cameras. The movie set the tone for modern day space movies and drama. From the mystery of whose Luke father was to a love triangle between Luke, Princess Leia, and Harrison Ford (Hon Solo). This was one of the best space movies of its time and still is today.
