What is the Best Way to Get One-way Backlinks to Your Blog or Website?
Backlinks Are the Life and Blood for the Search Engine Marketer..
Getting one way backlinks is perhaps the most mundane, boring thing that most of us marketers have to do. But it is a necessary evil. In this article I will go over the various ways to get one-way backlinks to you blog or website. If you are new, then you may want to read how to get one way backlinks first.
There are actually a few ways to get them. Let's take a look at the various ways:
- Linkbuilding through link services- Here is what happens and how it is done. The person providing the service builds pagerank or else buys a domain with pagerank and then gives the subscriber the ability to post short 100 word blurbs with there keyword anchored within the text. The service then will drop the text on one of its network of sites. Google favors in text links and from that perspective it can seem to be the most beneficial. The downside is that link networks are fairly easy to discover and if you can spot them, there is no reason to believe that Google can't spot them as well. The fact that most blurbs will be 100-150 words with a single anchor text from article to article could eventually leave a footprint for google search bots to discover without a manual review. However, link services for building backlinks can improve pagerank significantly. Best if used with long tail keywords with low competition....
- Building links with link brokers- This is the place where big businesses' operate. They find places to drop links on high PR spots for a price. The downside is that it typically is very expensive and some websites will require a monthly payment. I have seen some sites charge as thousands of dollars for a single PR6+ link. The upside is that you only need a few of these to rank, even in some of the more competitive keywords.
- Building links with web2.0 properties- Perhaps the most popular way to building backlinks is to build them yourself. There are some inherent problems with this though. For one, these types of "anyone-can-get-them" links aren't worth that much, at least at the beginning and take time to build up. But the reason why they are so popular is because so many webmasters view them as "free" (which they aren't...unless you don't value your time. - Building backlinks through guest posting- This is perhaps the best of both worlds when it comes to getting backlinks. For one, they are free (well, not really...see above). Secondly, they tend to come from websites that are contextual with your topic. Finally, chances are good that the webmaster keeps up his site which means the link gets stronger as it ages....and there are ways to push this along.
So, it is my opinion that if you don't have the money to buy backlinks...something that google doesn't view as ethical by the way, the white hat way to get backlinks that is probably the most effective is to do 2 guest posts a week and one day a week writing and updating content for your site and the rest of the time building web2.0 properties to give backlinks to your guest posts. Why Guest Posting is the best way to build backlinks
So, let's take a deeper look into why guest posting would beat out building your own properties..
The biggest reason would be because you would likely be on a website that isn't dormant and that is updated daily meaning that the search engine spiders would be there to index your link. Also, if you are in a niche where the blogger community knows what they are doing (they understand Pagerank and take pride in building a high pagerank and links to their website), then the home page "juice" will flow down.
You can also give the page a lift by adding backlinks to the page from web 2.0 properties and blogs and websites that you create yourself. Lifting an existing website with authority is easier than building a new site and trying to raise it from scratch.
Traffic funnels- It shouldn't be a surprise to you that I use hubpages for traffic funnels. I use it to rank for certain keywords and then funnel the traffic by to my original source. But just as important is the fact that you likely have a captive audience there for you that is interested in the same niche you are in. The result? More traffic and more potentials for natural backlinks.
