Homelessness wouldn't exist (and would therefore cease to be any kind of an 'annoyance/nuisance') if each and every citizen lent a helping hand - eliminating the need for those that currently do all they can, to shoulder full responsibility of taking care of the homeless by themselves. Establishing programs where homeless people could do community service in exchange for shelter and food, would help to instill the daily habit of working, along with decreasing the need to stand in the middle of busy intersections asking for 'hand-outs'.
Can you imagine your child ever being homeless? How do you think you would feel if your child ever became homeless, and what do you think you would do about it? Surely each homeless person was once loved by a parent/relative/sibling, right? Or do you think they were rejected, and discarded soon after birth? I would find that hard to believe considering all the fuss that usually surrounds cute little additions to our society.
While many people are raised to be independent, countless others are raised to be very dependent and don't know how to rely on themselves to be fully responsible, and in charge of their own lives. This is where society can step in and help to correct this faux pas, especially when you help others you help yourself. Everytime you do something good and positive in the world - even when you think it was completely selfless - it sends an important message, and creates a domino effect of other people also passing on good and positive messages/acts.
If you haven't donated or volunteered your time to help those that need so much more than most of us - your first gesture needn't be huge, just doing something small to help someone else would mean so much, and would be a much appreciated way to start to build a habit of helping to make our world a wonderful place to be for everyone. There are many great examples of people helping people, and here is someone who is doing what they can to reach out and connect to those that need it:
