What is the Best Wedding Advice Anyone Gave You?

Nicole Weaver
A lot of my friends got married young, I decided to travel and get established in my career before taking the plunge. Needless to say, with so many married friends wedding advice was overly abundant. The key to success according to them is the word: Plan, Plan, Plan. They adviced me to plan way ahead of time. The magic time frame they said, " Give yourself at least one year minimum to prepare for your wedding." Did I take their advice? Of course not. I figured when the right person comes along true love will conquer all. Much to my dismay, those thoughts did not come handy . What I learned is you must consider every minute details when planning a wedding. I had to change the reception location, because I waited too late to pay the deposit. Luckily, a member from my church was able to secure a very nice country club because she was a member there. The country club was very beautiful, but definitely not my first choice.

Secondly, it is always a very good idea to double and triple check the caterer. A teacher friend of mine suggested using a caterer, I assumed all would be well. I never took the time to investigate , on my wedding day, the food was not at all what I had expected. It became clear that they were a mom and pop business, and in the light of trying to make as much profit, these people cut corners on everything. I was truly embarassed by the quality of food they served.

Another advice that came in handy that I actually took to heart was: Be sure that your wedding dress will fit you on your wedding day. Too many times women purchase wedding gowns that are too small. They come across a dress that they fall in love with and are convinced the weight will come off in time for the wedding. Are you kidding me? It takes a lot of dedication to take unwanted pounds off. In my opinion, the stress of having to plan such a monumental event in one's life is the perfect elexir to keep the weight on for eternity. It is certainly not too outlandish of an idea to purchase a dress a tad too big. One can always get the dress altered to fit properly, but try altering a dress that is too small . Good luck! Luckily for me I purchased a dress that was a tad too big. Much to my dismay, I had gained five pounds due some new prescription medication. I felt very bloated on my big day with that extra five pounds but my dress did fit perfectly. HOORAY! I finally got something right.

Lastly, one can never plan too much for their big day. Had I heeded the advice of my dear friends, I would have been able to avoid many mishaps. When it comes to making a huge success out of your big day, Plan, Plan, Plan is the advice of the century. Take heed!
