What is the Big "O" Secret? Does the Book Oprah: A Biography Reveal a Secret

Ms. Marie
Kitty Kelley did what no other man or woman was brave enough to do - she wrote an unauthorized biography about the one and only Oprah Winfrey. How dare she try an unearth any buried secrets that Oprah may have tucked away. Well, Kitty deserves a pat on the back for being so courageous. Does the book Oprah: A Biography reveal anything new, does it expose some deep-dark secret. Everyone wants to know the answer to one question. What is the big "O" secret?

The fact that Oprah Winfrey was not interviewed for the book is no surprise, but it does makes one wonder why Winfrey would not participate in a book about her life. Then again who cares, certainly not Kitty she is comfortable writing unauthorized biographies about living icons regardless of their input, it's what she does best. Kitty Kelley's perspective is one to be admired and respected. She's an author who dares to search for the truth about the image's celebrities create about themselves with the help of the media. Kelley digs in, gets her hands dirty and examines the myths about celebrities like Oprah Winfrey. Kelley does say that after reading her new book on Oprah, "You come away being inspired."

Inspirational or not it is safe to assume that the so-called queen of talk shows will not be endorsing this book so don't expect to see Kitty Kelley sitting on Oprah's couch talking about her new book. And don't waste your time looking for it in Winfrey's book club because you probably won't find it. But you can find it on Amazon and in bookstores.

Kelley says she did three years of research, conducted more than 800 interviews with sources, and even reviewed thousands of clips of Oprah Winfrey interviews as a part of her research for the book. Keep in mind that there is no record of Kelley ever being successfully sued over any of the unauthorized biographies/books she's written. That does speak volumes about her character, and it makes it believable that Kitty Kelley writes what she truly believes to be truthful based on her sources.

One would think that anything Oprah the media would be eager to talk about, but most are shunning the opportunity to interview Kelley. Seems no one wants to get involved or help promote this book. Kitty Kelley alleged that many a media outlets fear giving her an interview and it certainly seems that way. However, the ever so kind no holds bared Bill O'Reilly did invite Kelly on The O'Reilly Factor, she appeared on April 14, 2010.

But Bill O'Reilly may have invited Kelley on just to set her up and discredit what she wrote about him in the book. He addressed the book briefly before stunning Kelley with this statement, "You have a part of me in the book where I call Oprah Winfrey and complain that she is being too left-winged in her presentations. I never made that call, we never talked, does that surprise you?" You could tell that Kelley didn't see that one coming, but she responded gracefully. Then O'Reilly added, "...So that's a mistake in the book. Does that bother you?" Kelley held her ground with Mr. No Spin who went on to say, "I feel queasy when I see betrayal and people talking about Oprah Winfrey, blind people with no names attached." Kelley firmly stated that most of her sources are named, a steadfast Kelley expressed her gratitude to Bill O'Reilly for having her on the show and ended with, "Thank you, you're very brave."

O'Reilly didn't deny or confirm that Oprah Winfrey influenced his decision to invite Kelley on the show. But it did seem like an opportunity for O'Reilly to show loyalty to Oprah while attacking the contents of Kelley's book, he too has a large fan base and is very influential. Whether or not Oprah made calls to intercept possible interviews is a mute point because according to Kelley, Larry King, Barbara Walters, Rachel Ray, and a host of others won't even consider having her on their show. There is speculation that this is not because Oprah said anything, or out of fear, but out of respect. Kelly put it like this, "They don't want to lose their place in Oprah's sun. It's not noble but it is what it is." Now, that is a little creepy. Did Oprah Winfrey use telepathic communication?

Oprah's accomplishments are fascinating, but only those who truly know the woman, the person, the real Oprah Winfrey can say for sure if she is one to be admired or not. Just because Oprah Winfrey is successful and has fans and loyal followers does not mean she is to be idolized or feared. Oprah is not God. She is human. And if there is a big "O" secret out there it will eventually rise to the surface. On the other hand we may already know all we need to know. All that Kitty Kelley has done with Oprah: A Biography is put all the juicy details of Oprah's life in one convenient place for the world to read if they so desire.

What a great article. I have always wondered why Oprah never talked a lot about her parents, and I heard that the book explains the kind of astranged relationship Oprah has with her mother.
