What is Black History?

David H.
What is Black History Month? What does it really mean?
Is it the story of our struggle from Africa across the seas?
Should it be represented by just slavery, civil rights and the NAACP?
Or prominent figures like Carver, Malcolm X, Tubman and Dr. King?
On the calendar it says that we only have February to celebrate
But on every day black history is made, not just those 28
We hear complaints about why our month has only 28 days
But we're blind to Obama's message, we have to Be the Change

Now what's the significance of black history? Well I'm glad you asked
It's a story of both a glorious and a tragic past
From the pyramids of Egypt to the South African fields
From the mighty Sahara Desert to Mount Kilimanjaro's hills
From the brutality of tribal war to the imperial age
From the cries of our forgotten ancestors, the millions of slaves

Black history is rich, like our ancestral kings and queens
Strong Black individuals who were advanced in nearly everything
From Alexandria's library to Timbuktu, strong Black education
Knowledge flowing through their minds and fueled many African nations
Don't be ashamed to declare that you're an educated African-American
Because we have an obligation to fulfill the legacies of way back when

Most of the vast knowledge of our people has been lost to the sands of time
But not knowing what we have is our race's biggest crime
So Black History lasts 365 days, from January to December
And it's our mission in 2010 to always remember.

Did you know that ancient Egypt was one of the most advanced empires of its time, and many Western cultures believe it was more advanced than the Romans and the Greeks?
