What is Up with Brett Favre, Deadspin and Jenn Sterger?

Sharyl Stockstill
If ever there was a case of not trusting anyone, Brett Favre is a prime example. When Jenn Sterger recently admitted to Deadspin that Brett Favre had sent her an x-rated cell phone picture, Deadspin immediately jumped on the chance for a popularity upsurge from people doing internet searches. That the possibility of a scandal was also carried by the New York Post only added to the mess.

Deadspin is a website that seems like an online version of the rag sheets you find at the supermarket. Is there any truth to the stories? Only the real players, Jenn Sterger and Brett Favre know for sure. Otherwise, there is no proof as Jenn Sterger has been reluctant to go on record and share her private emails and pictures with the website.

Brett Favre has his hands full trying to overcome this negative publicity when he should be concentrating on being the quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings. Brett Favre has not denied that he sent pictures to Jenn Sterger, but he has not confirmed them either.

The public is almost rabid wanting further details of something they should not be interested in. People are human and screw up. That private emails, pictures and text messages can be used to allude to something is just sickening. The only people who should be concerned with this are Brett's family and the Minnesota Vikings. One can only wonder if Deadspin and the New York Post ran with the story for sales or to distract Brett Favre.

Whether Brett Favre propositioned Jenn Sterger or not does not really matter here. What matters is everyone should learn a lesson from this situation- do not trust anyone to keep things private. Your best friend today will sell you out tomorrow for just a shot at that 15 minutes of fame. Your best offense is defense. Keep a tight rein on images, text messages and voicemails. They may come back to haunt you, right Brett?
