What to Bring on Your Camping Trip

Roger C.
Going camping is a great experience. It is a great way to escape from the stress of the big city and find a peaceful time withm mother nature. But it is only a great experience when you have all the items required to make your trip enjoyable and fun. Failure to carry the essentials when camping can result annoying and sometimes even dangerous, so having a checklist of all things you need to a good camping experience will make your trip easier and relaxing.

One of the most essential items when you do tent camping is to have a backpack. Depending on your particular needs, you need to choose the size of your backpack. It is recommended a large backpack most of the times because you can accommodate more items in it, but you need to make sure it is in good condition and preferably water-proofs if you are more adventurous.

A sleeping bag is also a must. A sleeping bag, although is less comfortable, is way more practical than a mattress or inflatable stuff. You can carry a small sleeping bag at all times if you plan to go hiking and night settles in.

Even more important than a sleeping bag, is to have a tent. The tent will be like your home when you are in the wilderness, so you have to make sure it is in a good shape. It must be complete and all minor damages must be repaired preferably before you go to your campsite.

Clothes and shoes are also an important part of the trip. You must plan your clothing needs depending on the duration of the trip, the climate, and the activities you'll be performing. Bring enough clothes, but not so much that will weigh you down. The same applies for the shoes. Bring a pair of running shoes along with hiking boots. This should be enough to get you going.

Bring a nice supply of food and drinks unless you want your trip to be a "survivor man" episode. Bring bottled water, canned foods, soup, fruits and whatever you need. Don't forget to have your cooking utensils to cook your food or make some tea.

Having a sharp blade is always a good idea. Whether it is a knife, a machete or an axe, having a cutting tool will make your trip a lot easier. I would advise having a Swiss Army knife at all times. Mine has proven to be so useful on my camping trips that I NEVER leave without it, even in my everyday duties.

Have available other items as well such as a compass if you don't know the area, garbage bags to clean up your mess, binoculars just for the heck of it, cell phones, and a first aid kit for emergencies. Having the items and supplies you need, will greatly improve your camping experience. Good luck.

Thanks for the checklist. They all seem pretty obvious, but it's funny how you don't really think of things like a first aid kit. Believe it or not, I've even heard of people forgetting to bring water.
