What Brooke Hogan is Really After

The True Purpose of Her Television Show

I just saw re-runs for Hogan Knows Best recently, which is pleasantly amusing to say the least. But forget Hogan himself, it is Brooke's turn to take the spotlight. And the timing could not be any better.

Her spin-off series follows the highly successful series that had put some focus on her music career in the first place. Hogan Knows Best debuted in 2005 and had the highest-rated series premiere in VH1's network history. The speculated first single off her new album, "By Heart," can already be heard, plus she will be the cover girl for the July 2008 issue of Maxim magazine.

Hopefully this time, however, the album will fare better. While we saw her hardly working--I mean work hard--on her last album, Undiscovered, on Hogan Knows Best, it seems like she is still relatively, well, undiscovered.

I remembering seeing the first single, "About Us" featuring Paul Wall, rise up to number 33 on the Hot 100, but the album debuted at number 28 and quickly fell off the big chart with lackluster sales.

We saw the then teen in the studio with Scott Storch--whom signed her to his label--and followed her through the process. But Ashlee Simpson she is not. The album was mostly R&B-flavored thanks to Scott Storch.

If at first you don't succeed, dust yourself off and try again. It was not the first time Brooke had been disappointed in the music industry.

Back in 2004, she had a single called "Everything to Me." Sounding like a second-rate Michelle Branch knock-off, it only peaked at number 97 on the Hot 100. As a result, the album remained unreleased.

So music-wise, she does not have a strong sense of direction and what her own style is, and has been trying on different outfits. All she is sure of is that she wants to be singer. And by the looks of her new song, "By Heart," she's trying on yet another outfit. This one seems geared to be rock-oriented.

She's already 20 and no longer the Daddy's little girl she was on Hogan Knows Best. She's calling the shots this time around. Dad won't be calling her in the middle of a date. Or will he?

There's no doubt this season is different. Her mom and dad are now divorced and her brother Nick is in jail for a serious car accident, so the family unit is scattered. This time, it is truly all about her.
