What to Buy on Post Holiday Sales for Year Round Savings

Gayle Crabtree

Saving money is always important to me. That's why I always shop the post-holiday sales. Careful purchasing now can save big bucks on gifts and other items that can be used later. It doesn't take long to learn to spot clearance items that can be used later. Careful shopping and creativity are all you need to maximize those post holiday savings.

Daily Finance suggests buying bubbly from the post-holiday clearance bin. Use it on New Year's Eve or wedding or graduation events.

Here are a few more items that I buy and how they work for me.

Red

Think Valentine's Day, July 4th and some birthday parties. Buy some ribbons, plates and decorations to use all year.

Green

This is one of the powerhouse colors. Use anything green for Patrick's Day, birthdays and Earth Day celebrations. post Post-holiday sales are perfect for picking up paper goods and plasticware. Ribbons, bows and some table decorations will complete the look for these occasions.

Purple, green and gold

What else is perfect for Mardi Gras? Buy your fill of purple, green and gold. Christmas ornaments can be put into green baskets and tied with purple ribbon. Wrapping paper in Mardi Gras colors can be picked up for pennies and is perfect for decorating.

Gold and silver
Do you know someone who is having a 25th or 50th wedding anniversary this year? This is a perfect time to stock up? Silver and gold are huge when it comes to post-holiday sales. Look for paper and plastic goods, chargers and linens.

White and off-white

Stock up on these colors for year round use. They are guaranteed to be in post-holiday clearance sales. Who doesn't need the occasional cloth napkin or tablecloth? Don't overlook table runners and candles.

Sets for her

Is there a lady who doesn't appreciate a basket of bath products? Kitchen and home décor sets are frequently available post-holiday. Use them for secret pals, Mother's Day or birthday. These also make great shower gifts or as a treat for yourself .

Outdoors

Sets for camping and tackle can be found on the clearance tables. These go fast and will need to be purchased quickly. Go to sporting goods first after the holiday. Save the items for Father's Day, birthdays or surprise gifts.

Pantry items

Shelf-stable boxes of sausage and cheese items are good for gift giving. Have you ever thought about saving them for emergencies? When electrical lines are down these boxes can save the day. Buy two or three during the post-holiday sales to keep as food pantry items.

Shopping for next year after the holidays are past is a GREAT strategy!! As a benefit beyond saving money, it reduces the need to be out in the mobs next December!

Well done! I never get out to those after Christmas sales. I don't have a car of my own and just can't get out when I'd like to.
