What I Cannot Change

On this morning's Today Show, I had the opportunity to listen to a beautiful song titled What I Cannot Change by Leann Rimes. She also talked about the website that was created in honor of this song, http://www.whaticannotchange.com.

I visited the site after watching the show, and it is a beautiful website honoring people's experiences with the things in life that cannot be changed. I am a recent widow, and have learned much about power of accepting the harsh realities that life gives us.

LeAnn Rimes took a difficult time in her life, and allowed that pain to create a beautiful song honoring how precious life can be when we find the power to embrace the tragedies of life. The website that was created for the song allows people to honestly share times in their life that they had to accept the things they could not change.

There are few tools out there that allow people to be so honest and to receive affirmation of past difficulties, struggles, and challenges. On the Today Show, Rimes explained how touched she was that so many people felt able to open up about the issues they were dealing with in their lives. Despite her dark time, she was able to take comfort in the power of other people's honesty.

Dealing with situations that cannot be changed is one the biggest hardships in life. We are always left to wonder how life could be different if that one thing had not happened. I often think that same thought when it comes to acknowledging my husband's short life. I wish things were different, but I have learned to come to terms with the finality of his passing.

So many people are unable to deal with tragedy and the general trials of life, in this manner. Many people turn to outside means to deal with their pain and anguish. Whether it be drugs, alcohol, depression, sex, so many people have other vices that take hold of their lives during hard times.

If you or a loved one are unable to deal with a situation in your life, it is important to seek outside help to work through the emotions that you will face during a dark time in your life. Please consider seeking professional help from a counselor, or pastor, before turning to other vices that will just bring you further down.

Whaticannotchange.com is a great site that promotes honesty of relating to the dark experiences we all face in life. However, this website is not meant to be professional help for these situation. I encourage you to read some of the stories on the website, and know that you are not alone in your suffering.

The past of life cannot be changed. What can change, however, is how you move forward, and the change you can initiate in the future.
