Reasons for a Low Libido:
Hysterectomies: Hormones that aid in sexual desire are affected when the ovaries are removed. There is also a decrease or possible complete loss of sensation of orgasms when the uterus is removed.
Painful intercourse: Painful intercourse can be caused from certain medical conditions such as endometriosis, low estrogen levels due to childbirth, or menopause which can lead to vagina irritation and dryness. Cysts, fibroids and vaginal abnormalities such as vaginal prolapsed can also lead to painful intercourse.
Medications: There are many classes of medications they can lead to a decreased libido in women such as antidepressants, chemotherapy drugs, blood-pressure medicines, and oral contraceptives. Consuming alcoholic beverages may also diminish ones libido.
Child birth: Some women lose their sexual desire after having a baby due to the busy days and sleepless nights. Because they are preoccupied with everything that deals with a baby they seem to lose all sense of intimacy for the first few months to a year.
Depression: when you suffered from depression you feel as if you are fighting for every ounce of energy. When you struggled to even maintain your daily activities sex becomes the last thing on your mind.
Treatments to help a women's libido are not overly promising as it looks as most are calling for the use of increasing testosterone levels. The downfall to testosterone is that it's not recommended for any women who is not experiencing menopause, so what does this mean for non-menopausal women?
Side effects of testosterone in women include facial hair growth, increased muscle mass, acne, chance in voice, enlargement of the clitoris and increased perspiration to name a few.
Testosterone treatments can only be used under close monitoring of a physician.
Other treatments include estrogen therapy, exercise and counseling.
