What Causes Chronic Headaches?

Chronic headaches can be a huge problem for some people, and can adversely affect both their personal and professional lives. Once the reason for it is understood, it becomes easier to get some relief, and permanently too. This article explores some of the causes of chronic headaches.

Get your eyes examined. Most people suffer from headaches without even realizing that it could be caused by their vision. You might be advised to wear glasses or if you already wear glasses, a more powerful lens might be prescribed. You can get your eyes examined at any eye examination center and do not necessarily have to consult your regular physician for an eye examination. Your headaches will stop once your vision is corrected.

Stress is a major contributor to chronic headaches. Though everyone has stress in their lives, it is how one manages stress that makes a huge difference. Poor stress management can lead to chronic headaches. Explore the factors that can cause stress in your life and try to eliminate or manage them. In all probability, your headaches will stop and never return again.

A normal adult requires a minimum of seven and a half hours of sleep every day. A majority of the adults in today's world sleep less than this. This lack of sleep in itself gives way to stress in your life. Watching television late into the night or taking care of infants in the house will reduce your sleeping hours. Cut down on watching television late at night, or take turns with care of the children and use those extra hours for sleeping.

Your eating habits could also result in chronic headaches. Diets that include hotdogs, red wine and processed meat, which contain additives, are found to be a cause of headaches. The best way to identify this is by journaling what you eat. A journal can simply be a note book where you write down everything that you consume on the days you experience chronic headaches. Make sure to share this information with your doctor, as it can provide some insight for him about your headaches.

All available medications have a list of possible side effects associated with them, so if you take medication of any kind, that could also be a cause of your chronic headaches. If you believe that the headaches started occurring after you recently started taking a medication, consult your doctor and raise your concerns with him.

The key to getting a permanent cure for your chronic headaches is to observe the chain of events that happens before your headaches occur and sharing this vital information with your doctor. This will help your doctor in identifying the root cause and provide a permanent cure.
