What Causes Snoring and How to Cure It

JOEY S
One of the most annoying things in life is to put up with the snoring of a family member. It is not the fault of the snorer as it is not done on purpose. In most instances, the sound of snoring arises when tissues in a relaxed state drop down at the back of ones throat when the person is in sleep mode.

Once these tissues are relaxed, the flow of air will cause them to flip. This is because they are hanging loosely close to the throat. These tissues will then collide with each other as air passes. This then causes them to vibrate and create these annoying sounds which would set up the partner for a night of broken sleep.

We will now look at the possible causes of snoring.

1: An obstruction in the nasal passage can prevent the movement of air to flow from the nose to the lung. If the nose is blocked, he/she will then breathe harder than usual. This in turn will cause that particular space in the throat. The tissues that hang loosely in this section of the respiratory tract are then subject to abundant movements.

2: The surplus fleshy structure in the throat mainly due to he/she being overweight - This is when there are extra tissues that collide with each other causing snoring to occur. This is the reason why people snore when they have tonsils that are not normal. Also people that are overweight mostly have a neck that is bigger than normal. This shrinks the size of the air passage and also adds more obstructions because of the extra tissues present.

Some people have a uvula and soft palate that is longer than what is considered the norm. These muscles can cause a swinging action when one breathes. These block the normal air passage through the throat.

3: Problems related to the formation of the nose. The nasal septum (which is the underlying bone of the nasal bridge that separates one nostril from the other nostril), can also have malformation that may cause the blockage in the air flow.

4: Style of mouth breathing can also cause snoring to occur. As soon as the jaws drop during sleep, a space will form which will allow the tongue to fall back towards the throat. This causes the creation of the blockage that will encourage vibration. The vibration will then cause snoring.

Now it is time to look at the possible cures of snoring.

In respect to the excess tissues in the throat, the best possible cure is to have the tissues that cause the blockage removed either via surgery or a non invasive weight loss system.

There are many techniques used by surgeons to remove the excess tissues. You should seek consultations with a qualified medical practitioner to find out the best procedure that will be used to cure or reduce the snoring. However one surgical procedure is to destroy excess tissues by electronic means. These excess tissues will then be reabsorbed naturally by the body. Another surgical procedure is having the unwanted tissues scraped.

In respect to weight loss, there are many methods of losing the weight. One must simply follow an exercise program combined with a healthy diet plan. Again one must see a qualified doctor first before undertaking an exercise program.

On the other hand, mouth breathing may be best cured by changing to nasal breathing. Many exercises had been formed to make this possible. Also there are many devices that stop snoring by encouraging the shift of breathing. Some devices such as clips increase the size of the nostrils to cause better breathing.
