What Channel is the 2011 NBA All Star Game On? What Time Does the Game Start?
The Slam Dunk Contest is Over. NBA Fans Turn to Their Attention to the All Star Game
February, generally speaking, is the most barren of all months on the sports calendar. America's number one sport, the NFL, wrapped up its season two weeks ago. Baseball's spring training is now just starting, and opening day is still over five weeks away. College basketball's March Madness is on the horizon, but even that is a couple of weeks away.
The NBA, which is the third most popular professional sports league in the country behind the NFL and Major League Baseball, is really in its dog days right now as the playoff chase has not really begun in earnest yet.
While NASCAR's Daytona 500 was run today, the event is a one off and does not really capture the imagination of most of the country.
The bottom line is that the country is a bit sports starved at the present time, and million will tune in tonight to watch the NBA All Star Game.
In general, All Star games in professional sports have lost much of their allure when compared to All Star games of generations past. There are many factors for this; much of it has to do with the general accessibility of all games today. When All Star games were at their height of popularity, the availability to watch all games via satellite, online or through countless highlight shows did not exist. All Star games represented the chance to watch players who normally played in far away markets.
There is also generally more player movement today. In baseball, basketball and football, players change leagues and conferences with ease. As a result, the pride factor, which may have existed in years past for players in representing their conference or league is not what it once was.
Similarly, the games themselves are today geared much more to the highlight reel. Great defense is not what creates excitement in All Star games; fans are generally looking for spectacular offensive plays.
For the basketball purist, this all creates a bit of a problem for the All Star game. While it may be exciting to watch alley-oops, three point shots and fast breaks, the essence of basketball, which includes team defense, ball movement and half court execution, is, undeniably, missing.
But, with little on the sports calendar and with much of the country off from work on Monday, millions will tune in and are wondering what time and what channel the 2011 NBA All Star Game is on.
The answer to what channel the NBA All Star Game is on is, "TNT". The answer to what time the NBA All Star Game is on is 8:00pm est; 5:00 pm pst.
