What Cheney, Pelosi and All Other Babyboomer Leaders Don't Realize
... That Rules of the Political Game Have Changed
Otherwise, Obama would not have been elected. Obama could not have been elected with just the African American votes alone. His election meant that he got lot of white votes, that too from the younger generation. He wouldn't have made it into the White House with his Democratic votes alone.
The vehemence of Ron Paul's supporters should also be seen in this context, though it was restricted to some small, isolated pockets in this country. On my way South, I halted at a restaurant in Ohio. There were a few cars in the parking lot with notices and banners that said their occupants were on the way to a Ron Paul meeting in the north. And one of the cars had a Florida number plate!
So when youngsters don't care the hundreds of miles from their homes they need to travel across the nation, just to change the way the nation is ruled, even when their home televisions are blaring local ads of the main candidates, that shows how serious they are. They knew Ron Paul didn't have a chance, but they are determined they won't be taken for a ride and they have started a movement that will be catching up in future beyond Ron Paul.
That proves the youngest in the voting populace refused to be influenced by all the traditional thinking and gimmicks in both sides of the political divide.
Obama didn't have an exceptional track record to show off, except his promises to make changes.
Still, the majority young voters were willing to side with him to get rid of the babyboomers who were just repeating the same limited glossary purposely planted in this country for the sake of a few:
There are no "Americans" for such tunneled-visioned politicians. For them the people of America always belong to one or the other of some special interest groups like,
1. liberals/conservatives
2. pro-choice/anti-choice
3. Democrats/Republicans
4. Lefties/Righties
and so on.
That is ridiculous, because when people are thrown out of jobs and homes, nobody cares which group they belong. And none of the leaders can come to their rescue.
Watch this funny scenario:
2008
You had a nice job, and so you rode a pricey car, you lived in a fabulous home - they called you a Rightie.
2009
You lost your job, so you sold your car or went for a small car, your home is repossessed - presto, you became a Leftie.
(They may even prompt your spouse and children to leave you when you most need their support!)
At that time no no liberal or conservative, Rightie or Leftie, Democrat or Republican, pro-choice or anti-choice can come to your rescue to offer you a job or a shelter. You suddenly realize you are plain "American", the only group that really exists.
And if you didn't belong to any such good-for-nothing groups, and still insisted you are American, they immediately consigned you to a waste basket marked "Conspiracy Theorists".
Yet, if out of sheer boldness and persistence you still survived and insisted you are just an "American" who wants to eke out a living in this Tower of Babel, they immediately labeled you "Russian" despite the records at the Ellis Island facility showing your ancestors never knew about Siberia.
And by the time some Texans entered White House, they had other names to call and to silence anybody who claimed he is a true American and none of the above: "Unpatriotic."
But who are these people to determine our patriotism and measure it, while what they did was and still trying to do is steal from taxpayer's money telling what they do is necessary for our country.
In fact, the whole supply contracts for Iraq went to one company or its subsidiaries or subcontractors under different names. And at least one of the guys croaking now belongs to that group.
Since I have no intention of draining Fort Knox and since my forefathers didn't hold dual citizenship and didn't come to this land to rob it, I did a soul searching and troubleshooting exercise after the election:
How come this great nation of ours elected a candidate who by all our traditions had the least years of experience?
And I got the answer too. That the younger generation are fed up with their lying seniors and wanted a change. And they voted for the only opportunity the Constitution left them with for that.
If there was a third viable political party the youngsters would have voted for its candidate. None existed, and they voted for the guy whom they believed was honest with his promises.
Still, Cheyney and Pelosi and their ilk are arrogantly but foolishly believing America hasn't changed. I know that because I belong to their generation and they are just parroting what they have learned. But the lessons my generation learned are outdated and needs to be updated.
The earlier they realize that they have no listeners in the young generation, the generation that matters for posterity, the better for their respective parties. If the juniors are showing them any respect still, that is not because of our messy present but because of our glorious past.
Otherwise, posterity will be forced to forget that the rolls of their parties once boasted such idols like George Washington or Abraham Lincoln.
Times have changed. But if babyboomer leaders in either political party go on repeating the same limited vocabulary and self-serving rhetoric, thinking their listeners are the same as when they started their political careers, they are going to be in for a rude shock.
If the babyboomer leaders don't read the writings on the wall, the younger generation will move forward, ignoring the elders' clownish acts, casting them on the wayside. Because, for the young Americans, it is a critical question of survival now.
To be American, nobody need feel pressurized to join any special groups. Adults need not be under peer pressure to act like clowns. Acting otherwise has cost them the respect of their posterity.
Remember, this is a country that raised a lad who was born in a humble log cabin to the most executive of mansions in the world, and then still elevated him to a higher marble pedestal at his death!
So according to the political clowns' glossary, he was a Leftie at birth, died a Rightie later.
But that is not why he is respected throughout the world. He is being respected throughout the planet many years after his death, because he was a true American.
