What Color Do You Feel?

Do Your Feelings Have Color?

Reba
Have you ever really thought about how you feel? Not feel with your hands or physically feel as in well or sick, I mean emotionally feel?

Sit back for a moment and think about your feelings. What immediately comes to mind when you think of being happy? Do you see anything in your minds eye? Does your body feel a sensation of some sort? Do you see a color or feel a color?

Several years ago it was pointed out to me that I felt in color. My reaction to the statement was "So, doesn't everyone?"

I was under the impression that everyone felt in color. That was why you heard all those sayings like "I feel blue" or "I was so angry I saw red!". The people that originally came up with those sayings obviously must have felt in color. Once I realized that I felt in color I started asking people what color were they feeling when certain things would happen to them. Most people just thought I was a screwball. I would get reactions like "What do you mean what color do I feel?" or "What are you talking about?"

To my surprise not that many people felt in color. I was also surprised to learn that people experienced their feelings in many different ways. I am sure you have heard the sayings "sad as a hound dog" and "happy as a lark". Those people see images. Others hear melodies and still others feel textures (like soft or silky). I personally can't explain what it is like to feel in anything other than color.

When you feel in color, your feelings are the colors of the rainbow:

Tenderness is purple.

Sadness is blue.

Scare or fear is green.

Happiness is yellow.

Excitement is orange

and Anger is red.

Have you ever felt a white mist surrounding you? If so, that is pure love. And when you see black, well black isn't such a good thing to see. It means your emotions are all mixed up and it's time to get your emotions in check.

If you happen to be a person that feels in color, it can help you keep your emotions balanced. You have heard the saying "The green eyed monster of jealousy", haven't you? Most people would think that if feelings have color then jealousy should be red, because you are angry when you're jealous, right? But the truth is, the first emotion you feel when you are jealous is fear. You are afraid that someone may take something you feel is yours. If it is not addressed, then it will turn into rage, which of course is red. (Not pretty!)

Also feeling in color helps you to understand others, like jealousy. If a person is feeling jealous and they are acting out in anger, the real emotion is fear. If you address the fear issue then the anger is removed. Most men totally skip green, because of stereotyping. They are taught that they should not be scared or afraid. Real men don't get scared they get angry. Can you see how this works?

Even if you don't feel in color, understanding the color wheel of emotions will help you understand yourself and others a little better.

So image yourself holding a newborn baby....what color do you feel?
