A degree in Communications prepares you for a wide variety of careers, due to the fact that it equips you with the ability to communicate effectively, both in speech and in writing. If you are considering pursuing a major in Communications, or if you have already earned your degree, then you might want to consider pursuing a career in any one of these fields.

Business

Those with a degree in Communications are in an ideal position to pursue any number of careers in the business world. Various industries, corporations, and consulting firms are constantly looking for those who have a wide variety of communications skills, and you may find employment in such areas as sales, management, customer service, and labor relations. If you are interested in this field, you might want to consider pursuing a Master's Degree, as well as develop strong interpersonal skills.

International Relations

If you want to see the world and experience the exciting world of international events, then you might want to consider a career in International Relations. In this area, you can pursue numerous occupations, including reporter, foreign relations, and foreign correspondent. Numerous organizations in this field are always looking for new talent, including private corporations, newspapers and magazines, as well as several international associations including the United Nations. There are a number of things you can do to prepare yourself for this career field, including mastering at least one foreign language (and preferably more than one), spend time studying abroad, and immerse yourself in courses that describe and deal with other cultures.

To prepare for careers in this area, be sure to take courses in Information Sciences and definitely acquire computer skills, as these will be enormously helpful in your career efforts.

Whatever field you decide to pursue, rest assured that your degree in Communications will help you be successful. As always, be aware that the higher the level of degree you have earned, the greater the likelihood that you will be able to advance to higher levels and gain more lucrative employment.
