What Concerns Me Most Now that the Midterm Election is Over

My husband and I used to be independents who voted for both Republicans and Democrats. But as the Democratic Party started becoming more liberal we became Republicans and voted for both Republicans and Democrats. Then, as the Democratic Party became even more liberal, we no longer voted for any Democrats because no matter how decent the individual appears to be, when they get to Congress there ends up being no difference between their vote and the liberal´s vote.

I'm concerned that newly elected conservatives might become compromised by those currently in Congress, because many of the members of the outgoing Congress have not shown that they respect the Constitution nor respect our right to have a say in their decisions by disregarding our concerns about their actions and telling us that we don´t understand or that their decisions are for our own good whether we agree with them or not.

They have enacted laws that are scary, like the new health care law which requires an unaffordable and unfair insurance mandate with an equally unfair tax or fine if we don´t participate, along with coercive requirements that tell us when we ought to receive end-of-life counseling rather than leaving that up to us to decide about our own lives. Personally, I feel that´s very disrespectful.

This Congress hasn´t appeared to be listening to us and has created laws that many of us have repeatedly tried to tell them that we don´t want.

Our area has high unemployment with many of our generation having been involuntarily retired without any current prospect of reemployment. We are among that particular statistic. We now live on Social Security, sooner than we had planned. We cannot afford any of these new laws and don´t see why we ought to.

Michelle Bachmann, Republican Representative from Minnesota, is starting a Constitutional Conservative Caucus. She says that "...the purpose is to bring all of those wonderful, new people in that just ran for office that have the pulse of the American people...so that every week we´re studying the Constitution, The Declaration, Bill of Rights."

I hope they will continue with this and not lose their determination to get our country back to the Constitution.

I believe Democrat, Harry Reid, Senator from Nevada and Senate Majority leader, will continue his secret backroom deals, like he did with the new health care law, forcing more unwanted laws. I think that is especially possible if Democrat, Nancy Pelosi, former Speaker of the House and a Representative from California becomes House Minority leader.

I´m concerned that they will continue as they had done before as if they hadn´t lost their House Majority and the filibuster proof number of Senators in the midterm election. Senator Reid promised to listen, but he didn't listen the last times he´d promised to listen when the Democrats won both houses in Congress.

I don't think the Democrats in Congress understand why so many Democrats got voted out. I and many of our friends see their decisions as threatening to the safety of our country and endangering our own welfare and freedom. That is specifically why I helped to vote them out. I find it very scary that they think that they can tell me how to live, die or what freedom I can or can't have.

It bothers me that Obama used executive orders to bypass Congress where Congress should have been involved in the decision making. For example, he banned oil drilling in the Gulf without consulting the states involved, not taking into account their welfare. He's implementing Cap and Trade through the EPA bypassing any possibility of a vote in Congress. If he is successful in this, many of the ones that he says he is doing this for, the middle class and the poor, will be out on the street because we wouldn´t be able to afford our homes anymore because the cost of heating and cooling our homes would be outside our ability to pay.

I think he'll try to use the executive order more with laws and possibly treaties because he doesn't have the control of both houses anymore. You might say he can't use the executive order on treaties that way. But I would say he couldn't do what he did with health care the way he did it, but he did.

I planned to teach college art in studio & history. But I needed to home school our son and did short term missions instead, which benefited from my education. I write about the trips I take for our ministry.  View profile
