If you are extremely busy and don't have a lot of time to spend at home it is important to make sure that the breed of puppy that you are getting can handle time alone. Certain breeds of dogs deal better with isolation then other breeds. Dogs are social animals and it is important to give them the attention that they need - especially when they are puppies. If your schedule is very hectic you should consider getting an older puppy who is more independent or looking for a breed of puppy that deals well with being isolated for hours at a time.

Your Space
Puppies don't stay puppies forever. Someday that adorable little ball of puppy fur is going to grow into a full sized dog and you need to make sure that you have adequate space for the dog. Certain breeds of dogs need room to run while others are comfortable in confined spaces. The type of puppy that is well suited to your lifestyle will depend greatly on whether you live an apartment or a house, whether you have a yard or not, or if you live on a farm or in the country where there is plenty of room to run. Be sure to find out the space requirements for the breed of puppy that you are interested in getting.

Your Hobbies
Your dog is your companion and friend. No doubt you will want to take your dog places with you and participate in activities together. You should look for a dog who matches well with the type of activity that you enjoy. By finding out what breed as well suited to your hobbies you will find a dog who will be your best friend and who can share in your life.

Your Family
Some dogs get along well with children while others do not. Not only that but oftentimes having children means that your household is bustling and busy. Certain breeds of dogs require quiet and don't deal well with a lot of activity. You should research the breed of puppy that you're interested in and make sure it is a good fit for your family.

Your Budget
Large breeds will require more food than small breeds. Additionally, medication and medical care for larger dogs is often more expensive than for small dogs. Not only that, but certain breeds of dogs are prone to things like skin conditions which can become costly to treat over the long run.
