What Console Maker Won E3 2009?

C.B. Jones
Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony competed in a game of show and tell at E3 2009. There were cheers, applause, and awkward moments abound. When the smoke cleared, only of one left the convention as the victor.

All and all, Sony managed to step it up with exclusive content, and a much needed change to the PSP brand. While PSP Go wont fully replace the normal, UMD using PSP, this is a step in the right direction toward abandoning that failed disc format If only it were cheaper than the normal PSP...

aside from the typical talk of sales figures, Sony showed off Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Grand Turismo PSP, and the 256 player online game, MAG. Almost as if like clockwork, there was a Hideo Kojima branded game trailer that made people scratch their heads upon seeing it. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Maker looks like it will be another great, yet confusing addition to the long running Metal Gear series.

Nintendo started out slow, but finished much stronger than last year. They were definitely listening to all the "hardcore" gamers, and The Metroid collaboration with Team Ninja is proof of that.

There was a Yoshi sighting during the Mario Galaxy 2 trailer! It good to see everyones favorite prehensile tongue having dino team up with the plumber once again. Gameplay footage from Metroid: Other M almost makes up for the poor effort form last year.

In my opinion, Microsoft's showing was the most consistent of the three pressers. If you were interested in getting an Xbox 360 later this year, you were given a lot of reasons to make an earlier purchase.

All Metal Gear solid titles will get a Xbox 360 port, Beatles Rock Band will have an exclusive song, and Halo 3: ODST looks like another quality effort from bungle. Trow in a sequel to Crackdown and you have a pretty dominating line up of games coming either later this year, or in 2010.

After a few years of being nothing more than a lame rumor, motion technology announcements from both Sony and Microsoft were announced. Sony's motion controller promises the same kind of precession; based gameplay that Nintendo's Motion Plus add on hopes to deliver for Wii owners. Microsoft on the other hand hopes to introduce interactive gaming experience, sans any type of controller at all. Interesting doesn't even begin to describe these announcements.

Who won? anybody with a Wii, Xbox 360, Playstation 3 or Playstation Portable. All gamers have something to look forward to in the coming year. Nintendo stepped up to the plate and game the people what they really wanted. Sony did their thing, and Microsoft came out swinging.
