What is the first template that kids learn when they start out in the world? Besides numbers, it's the alphabet!
Why is the world going green? Because the future of our planet depends on it and the health and prosperity of our kids demands a complete shift in our thinking when it comes to how we keep our world turning.
The Green ABC's, founded by IPFW student April Langschied, will help children learn about green living. A series of flash cards, coloring books, puzzles, and activity books built on the Green ABC's theme (e.g., "R" is for Recycle) will familiarize kids with key green living concepts and terms. All of the products will be made with eco-friendly materials, and the Green ABC's website will provide a one-stop shopping opportunity for socially responsible parents who want to empower their kids. To create the initial set of products, Ms. Langschied has enlisted the help of students from Fort Wayne Community Schools Anthis Career Center's Information Technology Academy, with the guidance of teacher Karen Gillie.
Beyond all of this a Green ABC mobile application is also in the making, and a YouTube exercise entitled "Watch Us Build the Green ABC's" is also in the mix.
The Green ABC's calls for a gathering of all aspects of green living, from alternative transportation, to clean water, urban gardening, and zero waste. The formation of this learning resource for kids was built with the idea of bringing the collective passion of all green grassroots activists, professionals, organizations, and businesses under one roof.
It was built with the conviction and belief that it is imperative to enable this large green movement to become an inherent part of every kid's life, on a daily basis.
Our products are being made in the United States, with the help of local student artists. We will utilize only those materials that will guarantee healthy, non-toxic learning products for children.
The following Kenyan Proverb sums up the work of the Green ABC's
"Treat the earth well. It was not given to you by your parents. It was loaned to you by your children."
