What Can You Do with Cotton Swabs?

Deborah Anderson
Ok, most everybody has cotton swabs in their bathroom and most get used for cleaning the ears or for taking off makeup. That is fine and dandy, but what else can these little pieces of cotton on a stick be used for? Lots of projects actually and all it takes is a little imagination and of course a need.

Q-tips or cotton swabs, or whatever they are called, you know, the little cotton balls with a stick placed between them, are definitely found in most bathrooms. But, some are found in the craft area of some homes while other can be found in the gardening area of other homes. In the bathroom, cotton swabs are used to put medicine, especially ointments, on injuries and they are used to clean ears as long as they are not put to deep into the ear. Cotton swabs are also used to apply makeup and to remove makeup, especially eye makeup.

In the craft area of a home, cotton swabs are used as little miniature paint brushes. Small children will be fascinated by using cotton swabs to paint with. They make really good ones because they are easy for little hands to handle and they are disposable. They also are very cheap, which makes them even better. Small children do not need to use expensive paintbrushes to enjoy painting.

In the gardening area of a home, cotton swabs can be useful for removing insects from houseplants. Houseplants that have spent the spring and summer outside will often have insects on their leaves. These insects need to be removed as soon as possible, but for sure before the houseplants are carried back into the house. To do this moisten the cotton swab with alcohol then wipe the houseplant's leaves down with the cotton swab.

The electronics or entertainment area of a home can also benefit from cotton swabs. Often times electronics will need to be cleaned such as VCRs and DVD players. Usually a head cleaning solution can be purchased at an electronics store and the cotton swab can be used to apply the head cleaner.

Cotton swabs, or Q-tips, are not just for use in the bathroom anymore. Today there are many uses for these tiny applicators. These are just a few of the uses that I have found for cotton swabs. I am sure there are many more so feel free to add to this list as you come across them.
