What is a Coupon Clipping Service?

Drew Taylor
If you are new to extreme couponing, you may be wondering about coupon clipping services. They are businesses and individuals who offer a variety of newspaper coupons to customers. Why do people pay for coupons? There are many reasons for the popularity of coupon clipping services. They may offer coupons not available in other regions, having multiples of the same coupon makes it possible to stock up during a sale and precut coupons are easy and convenient to use.

Coupon Clipping Fees
Coupon clipping services do not charge money for the coupons. Instead, they charge a "handling fee" for each coupon, with better and more valuable coupons commanding a higher handling fee. These businesses typically offer precut coupons, but some so-called coupon clipping services sell bulk, uncut coupon inserts from the newspaper.

Minimum Orders
Prices and policies vary, but some coupon clipping services require a minimum purchase while others simply attach a flat handling fee to every order. Some sellers offer a bulk envelope of complete newspaper inserts for a flat rate.

Post Office Woes
If you decide to order coupons, take notice of the seller's location. The post office website, USPS.com, has a shipping tool that allows you to estimate the time it takes for a piece of mail arrive once it ships. Refer to the seller's shipping policy and use the shipping tool to confirm that your order will arrive in time to use the coupons.

Does it make sense to buy coupons?

Paying for coupons seems counterintuitive and the services are somewhat controversial. Shoppers could unknowingly support crimes like newspaper theft and coupon counterfeiters. The Coupon Information Center claims, "Individuals selling or auctioning coupons often know that such sales and auctions are in violation of the terms and conditions of the coupons."

Consider your options when looking for extra coupons. Free newspaper coupons are often available simply by letting friends and coworkers know you can use their extra coupons.
