What to Get Dad for Father's Day

Please No More Ties!

Judilynn
Father's Day is fast approaching. June 17 is just two weeks away. Have you gotten your father a gift yet? Better question, have you even thought of a gift to get him? Or are you like me and father day rolls around and you are lost for ideas for the man in your life that has everything, to include an uncountable amount of ties! My father has six kids and I don't know how many grandkids. Once you do the multiplication that equals a lot of ties. So lets find five good ideas of what to get your dad for Father's day at the last minute that he will love and not just end up hanging in his closet.

Number five Your time is a wonderful gift for father's day. As an adult child you may not get to spend as much time with your dad as you, or he, would like. Take your Dad fishing, out for a round of golf, any thing that the two of you can do together and have fun. Talk to your dad about the weather, politics anything that you both enjoy. The most important thing is spending time together.

Number four It is said that the way to every man's heart is through their stomachs. This applies to dad's on Father's Day as well. Bake up some cookies. Maybe a cake or a pie. Not a baker? I am sure he would enjoy you making dinner for him as well. You are spending your time and energy showing your dad that you care enough to make him something. Is there anything better? If you can't cook or bake, take dad to lunch or dinner. This time you pick up the tab. Have a good meal and a good conversation. Take your time and enjoy each other's company. Even if it is just burgers at McDonalds.

Number three Help your dad with one of those projects. Those projects he has been putting off. You know the ones I am talking about. How many times in the past six months have you heard your dad say, I really need to clean out that garage. It could be the attic, fix that light fixture and the list goes on. We know our dad's are busy, let's help them out with those jobs around the house that need to get done. There is always mowing the lawn too. Who has done that since you left the house? We all know there are lots of things around the house that dad would like to get done, but his busy schedule he doesn't get the time to do it all. Your help with these things, without being asked, will show you care and that you are paying attention to what he says.

Number two Have dad's car detailed. You can do this yourself or hire someone to do it. I am not talking a quick wash and you're done. Do the tires, the roof, and the interior. Pay attention to all the little details. Shampoo his carpets and clean the seats. Armor All the dash and doors. Vacuum all those little crevasses where all the bits of dirt and happy meals have collected over the years. Make dad's day and after you are done, top off the gas tank. With the price of gas, this may be one of the best presents of all, though a little costlier than most. Can't top off the tank, even ten dollars shows you care enough to think of it.

Number one The gift my dad says he wants every year for Father's Day. Give your dad a hug and tell them that you love them. Sounds simple huh? But unfortunately a lot of times it is the simplest things that are over looked and never get done. Dad's are special and never ask for much from their children. They gave you the world growing up. Show them just how much they mean to you. Make sure you tell them you love them and how special they are to you.

Father's Day will be here and gone before we know it. Dad did a lot for you all your life, don't forget him on his special day. Even if it is the dreaded tie, in your own way show him you love him and make his day. By the way, my dad loves oatmeal raisin cookies. Come to think of it, I don't think my dad meet a cookie he didn't like. Share the memories and the cookie with your dad, and remember most of all tell him you love him and how special he is to you. Happy Father's Day!
