What Should David Cook Sing for Neil Diamond Week?

On American Idol

Next week on American Idol, David Cook is going to have the task of rocking the crowd with a Neil Diamond tune. Some may think this would be a stretch for any rocker, but if anyone can do it, David Cook can. You might be surprised to learn Neil Diamond has been covered by many rockin' musicians. Did you know Deep Purple covered a Neil Diamond song? HIM, a metal band, even rocked it out to Mr. Diamond's tune, Solitary Man. That same song has also been done by Johnny Cash.

So what should David Cook sing? I have a few suggestions. As a music lover, I enjoy an original and unusual arrangement of a classic song everyone knows. That's why Sweet Caroline could be a hit for David Cook. There are some things he needs to do to make it go over well. For one, it needs to be arranged by him, not a copy of someone else's version. Don't get me wrong, I love David C. I think criticism of his previous "borrowed" arrangements are unfair. So to avoid any negativity, he needs to break out some amazing changes and spin the song the way he hears it. I know he has the talent to make it great.

Another cool option would be doing Kentucky Woman. Deep Purple's cover was an acid-trippy guitar-charged rendition. I would love to see David Cook-It up like only he can do. Some harmonica threaded in the background with a southern-rock twist would be a unique way to show himself as versatile within the rock genre.

My last suggestion, Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon, is a Neil Diamond song that you may recognize from the movie, Pulp Fiction. It would be another blazin' hot molten lava bomb for those who subscribe to the Randy Jackson 'Phrase of the Week.' It is a sexy song and if you ask me, David Cook could sex it up a little more. Not that he needs the extra votes, but I think it could persuade some ladies to pick up the phone and vote.

Bottom line, whatever song David Cook sings for Neil Diamond week, it's going to be hot. He has charisma with character. That is a rare combination in the entertainment industry. Nice guys can not only finish first, but they can also rock a crowded theater.
