What to Do in Denver on Father's Day 2011

Not sure what to do with dad for Father's Day? If you live in or near Denver, there's plenty. Why not take a day trip or just a trip to the park? Cast a line, see a show, or just enjoy a chat. Here are some Father's Day events and venues in or near Denver that will please the whole family. It's dad's day. Still, he likely wants to spend it with his favorite people.

Take dad to breakfast on Father's Day. What dad wouldn't love to be treated to a great meal? You know the way to their heart. Our favorite breakfast spot is Sams 3 on Havana street in Aurora. It's American, it's Greek, it's Mexican, it's award winning, and it's delicious. The menu is huge and the prices are fair. Why not energize at Sam's 3 for your big day out with dad? (Or you can visit your own favorite breakfast spot.)

See a free jazz concert. This event will please music-loving dads. Head to City Park on Father's Day, June 19th, 2011. There's a free concert there as part of the City Park Jazz series. Rekha Ohal is the featured artist scheduled. While you're in the park, how about a day of fun at the Zoo for the whole family? Don't forget to pack the picnic basket. After all, what family goes to the park without a picnic?

How about participating in the Apex (Arvada Parks and Rec) Father's Day 5-K Run? Athletic dads will love this charity run. Not that athletic? There's also a 1-K. The 5-K starts at 8:00 am, the 1-K starts at 9:00 am. Registration cost includes a pancake breakfast and tech shirt. This race benefits Arvada youth in recreation. What a great way for the family to give back to the community and have a great time on Father's day!

Spaghetti for Father's Day? Even better, spaghetti and fire trucks. What man doesn't love spaghetti and fire trucks? This event is wonderful for dads with aspiring firefighter kids too. It's held at the Denver Firefighters Museum 1326 Tremont Place. Show up at 11 am to see the museum. Take some fun photos aboard a vintage fire engine. Stay for the traditional firefighters spaghetti dinner at noon.

Father's Day 100 mile bike ride. This one's not for wimpy dads. Thankfully there's also a 22 mile ride through the relatively flat terrain along the South Platte. If your family likes to ride together, this Father's Day event might be for you. Up for a bit more challenge, but not quite ready for 100 miles? How about 62 miles? No worries if you can't finish any of these. It's all about the experience. Several charities will benefit from your registration fee.

Some dads are a bit more eclectic. They like to explore new cultures and experience new things. How about attending the Greek Festival on Father's day weekend? You don't have to be Greek to enjoy the culture. There's games, rides, fun and food. Of course, there's dancing. It all starts at 11:00 am (June 17-19) at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 4610 East Alameda Avenue.

Have a dad who's into cars? What dad isn't? Dad will love the car show at the Highlands Street Fair. Kids will love
the other attractions just as much. This 30 year old celebration is held in Northwest Denver on June 18, 2011. There are vendors, a kids zone, food, crafts and more. Plenty of free music too. If you miss it this year, no fear. This is an annual Father's day weekend event.

On a budget this Father's Day? Have no fear. There's still plenty to do in Denver for free. Don't forget, Denver has some of the best parks around. Walk into one of the reservoirs to enjoy its amenities for free. Fish, swim or just take a walk around a lake. Camping isn't free but you can camp for free in your back yard. Check out the many bike paths in Denver too. Make this father's day special with fun venues, events and even free activities in Denver. Remember, it's not about the place or the money. It's about dad's spending the day with their favorite people.
