What Determines Your Emotions

Todd Hicks
Are you trying to figure out what determines the way we feel and the types of moods we have at any given time? A lot of different things determine this. You will gain insight on the factors that influence our emotions.

First Potential One: Your upbringing can play a part in how you often feel. If you mostly have happy memories from your childhood, you will likely feel more joy than misery. If you mostly have poor memories, you will probably be sad more often than you are happy.

Second Potential One: Your current circumstances play a major role. The more things are going your way, the more likely you are to see things positively. The more things are not going your way, the more likely you are to see things negatively.

Third Potential One: Your mood is likely to be influenced by others' actions. If they do something you like, you will be pleased. If they do something you do not like, you might become mad.

Fourth Potential One: The way others feel can have an effect. If they have joy and smile or laugh, you will probably do the same. If they are sad, you might develop a sense of concern and ask what is wrong.

Fifth Potential One: Your personal training can factor in. The way you react to things will likely be based on how you were trained. If you were trained to ignore insults, you will probably not become mad if someone calls you a bad name. If you have not mastered the art of anger management, you will probably become mad at almost every little thing.

Sixth Potential One: The weather can help you decide. When it is warm and sunny, I am likely to be happy. If it is cold and cloudy, I am not likely to be pleased.

Seventh Potential One: The amount of relationships you have and the strength of them is vital. The more close relationships you have, the healthier and happier you are likely to be.

Eighth Potential One: Your ability to cope with adversity should not be ignored. If you have trouble coping with pressure, you will be stressed out and unhappy.

Ninth Potential One: Your ability to forgive is crucial. If you cannot move on from what others have done to you and forgive them, you will be upset.

You have learned factors that influence your emotions.
