What I Did This Summer

What I Did This Summer, Not, I Know What You Did Last Summer!

Marie M. Daniels
It seems that every new school year my kids have to write some kind of a report on what they did over the summer. So this is my version of what I did this summer.

I lazed around the pool sipping on fruity drinks and got the best tan of my life. I would like to tell you that is what I did this summer but sadly that is not even close to the truth. A girl can dream right? We do not even have a pool in our backyard. I do not get tan I only get sunburn, so I stayed out of the sun most of this past summer. I am so pale that I could pass for a vampire.

Oh yes, I said vampire, which brings us back to what I did this summer. I read the Twilight Saga books over and over again. Now I can't shut up about those darn vampire books, by the way - I love Edward Cullen. I read all the books except for New Moon, which makes me cry, but that is another story. I will however, be going to see the New Moon movie when it comes out in theaters on November 20, 2009. Remember to save the date!

This past summer I read books, often times staying up half of the night. I love the nightlife, I love to boogie, but I digress. I really don't boogie. I read but did not write much. I let my kids and dear husband take over the computer for the duration of the summer. I did watch tons of television though. I let my brain relax and get turned into gooey mush. I watched many, many reruns of House with Hugh Laurie. Most of those re-run episodes I had not seen before, I don't watch much regular season television. My kids hog the TV.

We can't forget about the lovely trip to my mother in laws house and the visit with all of my other in laws. It was all peaches and cream, especially the 12-hour drive with the kids. Or am I just repressing the fact that for some reason I was completely stressed out and got a mysterious rash that covered a fourth of my body. Nope, that trip was just dandy, at least that is what I told everyone. By the way, the rash was mysteriously all better shortly after that wonderful trip. My doctor told me that stress can do evil things to the body, and I believed her.

Speaking of repressing I seem to also remember being abducted and probed by small furry aliens one night when we were out camping. Wait, that was just a dream I had on the second night of practically sleeping on the ground in a tent while raccoons scratched at the tent walls. I really don't know what those crazy raccoons thought was inside our tent. We kept all of our food in the mini van just so we wouldn't have a problem with animals. At least those little rascals scared away easily, I just wished they would have not kept coming back after I had just fallen asleep.

That is pretty much what my summer was like. Not an entirely horrible summer overall. Also not the best summer in the history of great summer vacations and not even in my top 5 summer vacations. It certainly wasn't glamorous like I dreamt about going to far away lands and visiting those white sandy beaches. Oh well, one can dream, maybe next summer.
