What is the Difference Between Antivirus Program Versions "Internet Security" and "Anti-Virus"?

John Rivers
Most anti-virus software manufacturers today offer customers two versions of protection programs - "Internet Security" and "Anti-Virus". They differ in their functionality, as well as cost.

The "Anti-Virus" versions have usually basic computer protection against the most dangerous pests. But today, users face a lot of the Internet-borne threats like: spam, network attacks, social networks that spread viruses, theft of confidential information. They attack the user in many ways for example: browsing the Internet, social networks, through e-mail. To be safe from all these threats should choose "Internet Security" version. By the way, it should not be assumed that the "Internet Security" protects only against Internet threats; it is a comprehensive security solution, which includes "Anti-Virus" protection.

Internet-borne have their specificity: it is not only rapidly growing user's computer, but also evolve very quickly and are altered to overcome the computer security systems.

Typically, in the "Internet Security" product the user finds the more advanced technologies to protect his machine rather in "Anti-Virus" product. "Internet Security" often has spam filters and firewall installed. Advanced users of "Internet Security" may use such technologies as "sand box" which allows the user to safely open even suspicious files. This technology builds a safe environment in your computer and secures it (isolates systematic computer files) and then the virus cannot do harm.

Other useful "Internet Security" technology is "Cloud Security". It examines your computer from viruses, using virus profiles found on the Internet. In this way, the user does not have to download updates that the program needs to detect and block the latest viruses.

The consumer, by introducing credit-card details, online banking passwords or other login data is safer with "Internet Security ". This type of program usually has a special module, which protects the consumer from theft of confidential information, which may lead to financial damage.

However, it should not be assumed that the "Anti-Virus" products are not getting better. These programs are also advancing - for example, previously they had no protection from theft of confidential information (called phishing), but the most recent versions has this technology. Still, the "Anti-Virus" programs fall behind "Internet Security".

"Internet Security" and "Anti-Virus" programs:

  • Differences of the software
"Internet Security" software is becoming more advanced that "Anti-Virus" software.
