Culver's is home of the nations greatest frozen custard- a creamy dreamy kind of frozen treat that is similar to ice cream but much more richer and well a lot more creamier.
I was hesitant at first trying this new dessert, but once I did I was hooked.
When I placed the spoon in my mouth and let the custard hit my taste buds I was in awe. It was the best stuff I've ever tasted.
They slow churn the custard so its creamier than ice cream. Ice cream has more of a sugary sweet taste that seems to be masked by different flavors. Frozen custard tends be less sugary and only comes in Vanilla and Chocolate. The way to really flavor up the custard is to add all the extras, like Reese's peanut butter cups, butterfingers, M&M's, even hot fudge, caramel and pecans. The custard serves as a backdrop to the wonderful additions you can put on your custard.
I like custard better because of the texture. I would describe it as being smooth and silky almost lightweight when in fact it isn't at all. Ice cream and Frozen custard look identical, and one wouldn't think that there was a huge difference in the texture, but low and behold there is. Frozen custard is incredibly smooth with no ice chips and no after taste.
Ice cream can at times have a slight after taste, usually due in part to all of those artificial flavors. Frozen custard is made from pure butterfat, egg yolk and cream. Some different Manufacturers of frozen custard I'm sure vary their ingredients around a bit, but mainly there are not many added preservatives. Ice cream can contain many preservatives and additives which take away from the taste. If you look on a carton of ice cream next time you buy it, you will see a lot of artificial ingredients like high fructose corn syrup, and hydrogenated soybean and cottonseed oils, yuck I don't know about you but I don't want to eat that junk it sounds like it could take on a life of its own!
Spoons down, I think Frozen custard wins because of its taste and creamy texture. Ice cream is good but if you want better go for the frozen custard.

Post a CommentCulvers is not even close to being on the charts for good custard. Its not thick, rich or creamy, its more like super sweet soft serve ice cream. Julie Ann's in Illinois is the best I have had, but now that I am in Milwaukee, I will have to find a place that is even better.
Quite frankly there are many different flavors custard can be... and the thought of Culvers being delicious makes me laugh... Culvers is disgusting... they dont even serve REAL custard there.... and have you TRIED their burgers? YUCK! quite frankly i dont see whats so great about it... and idk what happened that the spaces got taken out of my last post... =\

This information is taken off the Culver's website: Vanilla custard: Milk, cream, skim milk, sugar, corn syrup, egg yolk, guar gum, mono & diglycerides, locust bean gum, carrageenan, artificial and natural vanilla flavor.
FYI Culvers is the fake in the custard world. If you don't live in a place with other options I guess you can't get any good custard but Culver recipe has changed to include lots of fillers as well as corn syrup etc.... If you are in Wisconsin there are lots of places that don't have these added ingredients. My favorite is Michael's in Madison, WI
ONE WORD WONDERFUL!
I find that custard melts a LOT faster than ice cream.
