What is the Difference Between Jesus and God?

Defining the difference between Jesus and God is a real challenge since there are several verses which strongly suggest that Jesus IS God. Jesus said, "If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is. From now on, you do know him and have seen him!'" (John 14:3)

Philip said, "Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied."

Jesus replied, "Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don't know who I am? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me to show him to you?" (John 14:3) Jesus alluded to being the Father but he didn't come right out and say he actually was the Father. He simply stated that he and the Father are one.

However, there are numerous other verses that cannot be ignored such as; "I AM from above. You belong to this world; I do not. That is why I said that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I AM who I claim to be, (Greek- unless you believe; that I AM) you will die in your sins."

"Who are you?" they demanded.

Jesus replied, "The one I have always claimed to be." (John 14:23)

And then there are these verses where Jesus says, "For when you see me, you are seeing the one who sent me." (John 12:45) "Anyone who hates me also hates my Father." (John 15:23) "The Father judges no one. Instead, he has given the Son absolute authority to judge, so that everyone will honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. Anyone who does not honor the Son is certainly not honoring the Father who sent him." (John 5:22)

Jesus said he was the one Moses was talking about when he said God was going to raise up one like himself who would deliver them. "Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me; for he wrote of me. But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words? (John 5:39)

According to scripture, all will someday worship Jesus Christ. "Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." (Philippians 2:9)

The scriptures say there is only one God, yet throughout the entire bible there is evidence of trinity- a triune God.

Essentially, what the scriptures point to is a God who is three, yet still only one. Humanly speaking, this is impossible. Three cannot be one and still be three as one cannot be three and still be one.

Nevertheless, do the research and you will see that trying to prove or disprove the trinity can boggle the mind. The Bible indicates a type of subordination within the Godhead. The Son seems subject to the Father and the Holy Spirit seems subject to both Father and Son, yet all are equally God.

Therefore, trying to differentiate between Jesus and God is like trying to explain the difference between sky blue and light blue as they are both virtually the same. There are, however, several verses of scripture which state emphatically that Jesus Christ is Almighty God.

"I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty... And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death." (Rev. 1:8-18)

The Bible plainly says there is only one God and likely as not, we will spend eternity learning about Him.

In conclusion, while getting the opinions of others does help us better understand scripture, remember, it's just someone else' interpretation. The apostle Paul said "Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind." (Romans 14:5)

Study the Scriptures and allow the Holly Spirit to guide you into all truths. Jesus said we are to search the scriptures. Paul also said, "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." (2Tim. 2:15)

"Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling." (Philippians 2:12)
