What is the Disney PhotoPass?

Disney PhotoPass

Are you planning a trip to Walt Disney World? I am sure that for those who have started the planning process, you have come across the term Photopass several times, and have probably wondered what exactly it is. Disney Photopass, is a service that allows you to have pictures taken of you and your family throughout the Walt Disney World Theme Parks. Now be warned that the Photopass photographers range from professional to amateur's, but in my personal experience, I have found that the pictures that were great on my Photopass CD's have far succeeded the bad pictures. What I really suggest that people do is to use the PhotoPass at the same site (i.e. in front of Cinderella's Castle) several times, that way, if eyes are squinty due to the sun in your eyes, or some people walking around in the background, you will have a good amount of pictures to choose from.

So what exactly is the Photopass?
The Walt Disney World Photopass is a card that you are given to by any Photographer throughout the Disney Theme Parks. You give this card to any Photopass Photographer when you want to have your picture taken, and the pictures are digitally placed on the card. When you get home from your vacation, you are then able to go onto the Walt Disney World Photopass website and preview the pictures from your card, by submitting the 16-digit barcode from the back of the card. The Disney PhotoPass website allows you to submit as many cards as you desire onto the same account (as long as they have been submitted within 30 days of the trip), and from the Disney Photopass website you are able to purchase CDs of the pictures (giving you the rights to the photos to have them developed where you desire), have individual photos developed, and the standard personalised merchandise with your photo attached (mugs, t-shirts, mouse pads, etc.). The luxury of having as many cards on your account so desired, is great for people that are travelling in large groups or families that will be splitting up throughout the day, allowing everyone to still have pictures taken and placed on the same account, saving money and time.

The Disney PhotoPass PhotoCd is a very popular item. Many people travel in groups and are able to split the costs for the photos, and many people join Disney Photopass share groups, and split the cost between four or five other families. All of the images are placed onto a CD-Rom and as mentioned above, Disney releases the rights, so that you are able to have your pictures developed at Walmart or Target, and to save money in that area. Each CD contains a maximum of 500-700 pictures, so if you have 1200 photos, you will receive 2 CDs with your pictures on them.

The PhotoPass is also a great option as you are able to customize your photos. You are able to add frames, signatures from the Disney characters, crop and resize your pictures. This is where the 1200 photos becomes a reality, when you change 200 of your personal photos into double the amount due to changes that you have made to your photos to suit your needs.

We bought the photo CD last year but we won't buy it this year with the price going up. I'll ask the photographer to take a picture with our Digital SLR camera.

Isn't the photo pass neat? We took advantage of it on our trip last August.
